I do hate it when people moan about us buying youngsters.

Does that mean when the window opens in Jan, we will just be buying 17/18 year olds? No it doesn't.

As people on here have said loads before, its a 2 tier system we are trying, rather than going out all on our finances for the ageing ie Poyet, Redknapp and co.

It'll be a great buy if it goes through, pretty highly-rated player by the sounds of it. Can't see him playing much untill next season, though.

Can he play central as well, or is he just for the right side?

I really feel for Salty - yeah, he's not getting any younger, but has his form declined that badly in the last six months that he misses out in his favoured position to a midfielder...

Gunter makes me think of that fat little German kid from the Simpsons - does he wear leiderhosen at club social functions? That'd be f*cking awesome

He plays right back but has played left back for Wales. Cant see him playing this year, as he's only a handful of games for City this year and only been in the team since last month. He's not got the experience of Bale who had a full season in the championship.

So Ifil will be on his way out.

Not neccessarily. Ifil is much more experienced and if Ramos does not fancy Stalteri he is the obvious cover. He is injured at the moment, but his loan must be up soon and I would think Ramos would want to take a look at him. The appointment of a new manager always creates a window of opportunity for young players.

I know some will say that if Ifil was any good he would have made the breakthrough by now, but as recently as yesterday morning there were those saying the same about O'Hara.

Ifil and O'Hara are the same age. Both were precocious talents, who have needed to go out on loan to toughen up. But I have always felt that both had something about them.

I'm not sure I rate Ifil at all. I see him as championship level, he's certainly not excelled for Southampton

They want to keep him, so he certainly has not flopped either. And in fairness O'Hara did not really excel during most of his stay at Millwall. In a team game you are to an extent dependant on team-mates to allow you to demonstrate what you are capable of.

yea true, but he's also looked out of his depth (imo) when he's played for us

He was just a kid when his made his debut; against Vale he was disappointing, but I have seen enough of him for the reserves to know the mistakes he made were out of character so I put them down to nerves; other appearances have been out of position. The jury is still out for me. He has the technique for sure, the issues are around physical and mental strength (as they have been with O'Hara).
