Chelsea report £49.4m loss but meet Financial Fair Play rules
Chelsea have made a loss of £49.4m for the year ended 30 June 2013.

Their group turnover of £255.8m for the 12-month period is a record figure for the club, but elimination from last season's Champions League in the group stages saw a drop in income.

The club said these figures, combined with the previous year's profit of £1.4m, fall within the criteria set by Uefa's Financial Fair Playregulations.

Their commercial income rose from £67m to £79.6m - a 19% rise.

Chelsea won the Europa League in 2013 - but the club received significantly less prize money for that than they did in winning the Champions League in 2012, which contributed to the loss.

"For Chelsea FC to achieve a record level of turnover, despite our first group-stage elimination from the Champions League, shows we have structured our business and are growing in the correct way for long-term stability," chief executive Ron Gourlay said.

"Our philosophy is that we build upon success on the pitch - and although in these financial results we haven't repeated the sizeable profits made the previous year from player transfers, we believe the age profile of the existing squad means we will benefit from that investment for many years to come."

Chelsea's profit last year was their first since Roman Abramovich took control of the club in 2003.

That profit was aided by money brought in from player sales, in addition to a one-off financial boost that came when the broadcaster BSkyB agreed to cancel its shares in a joint digital media venture with the club.

The last two seasons have been the first monitoring period for Uefa's FFP regulations.

Chairman Bruce Buck added: "A long-term objective was financial sustainability, and the subsequent implementation of Financial Fair Play by Uefa and by the Premier League has brought that to the top of the agenda for football clubs.

"We are pleased therefore that we will meet the stipulations set down by Uefa in their first assessment period.

"By our own analysis, we are progressing from a commercial viewpoint as well as continuing to add trophies to our collection, which we never lose sight of as our most important goal."

Well its worth remembering that last year they made a £1.4million profit and that was largely due to them selling shares in BskB

Take in account players like Lampard, Terry, Cole and etc. wages dont count for one year!

They cant pull this trick again next season, they need to will need to improve next season to comply with for 2015!

Oh right. The FFP guff eh. Will never apply to the likes of Chelsea. Even if Roman is still a big champion of it. A couple of yrs getting rogered by citeh and barca will cure that attack of frugality.

Not really. Wages for contracts from before 2010 won't count. Nor will the cost of running their academy (including wages for players under 21). There are also other deductions they can make.

I know that they wont include wages and am aware of the academy cost but not sure of what they else they can do

The problem is wages don't count for last season only for 2011/2012 only and their wages is high but this season alone they are close to that €45million mark and last season the share prices help them make a profit but another huge loss and they dont make it. If you look at their history it reads
2010: £-71million
2011: £-68million
2012: £1.3million profit(but sold shares and hence the trick I was referring to)
2013: £-49million

So they still would need to reduce to meet FFP for next year

Hope so Beats. Any news on City?
They posted a loss of £97mill which was the best under that regime but £178mill goes on players wage bill and how much of that was players that signed before 2010 would be Tevez, Barry and etc. is unknown

Citeh figures will be interesting.

PSG have to be out. If they allow that sponsorship deal then there was no point of FFP in the first place. City's needs to be looked at aswell but with UTD and Arsenals new sponsorship deal it doesn't look that out of place now.

Chump change for Abramovich. Spends more than that fueling his yachts in a year

Never going to happen.

Not sure. This is Platini's pet project which he's passionate about. Remember 40% of European clubs are in serious debt, it's killing Spanish football with many on the verge of bankruptcy so something needs to be done.

Citeh figures will be interesting.

Didn't the owners put in massive funds for "sponsorship" of ground etc?

Then again they might divert some of their vast funds to their close neighbours starving and freezing in Syria? Afterall how could you let your fellow arabs suffer whilst paying half your squad £1/4m a week?

Yeah. So small clubs who fall foul will get bent over. The big clubs, the ones who told UEFA to shut their bitch mouths and start the CL 20 yrs ago or they're fucking off, will continue as usual.
