Also watched the game on ozSetanta. First point to make would be that Celtic looked worse than most Championship sides and the best player McGeady was well held by Zokora. I found Benoit to be pretty ordinary but perhaps they were giving time before him going out on loan. Woodgate and to a lesser extent Dawson looked comfortable altough Dawson still has not perfected his 45 yards cross field ball (plenty of attempts though)
The addition of Modric and Bentley gives us two players who were very comfortable on the ball tonight. I can see much formational rotation with this group....Huddlestone and Jenas both played ok without dominating. Bent made numerous well timed runs across the face of the defence finishing one chance and forcing saves with several others. Berbatov worked his way into the game and had a good half hour in the period...yes he moaned but chiefly at himself. What if he did stay? What a bonus.
Our most impressive player was Bale who simply ripped them apart from left midfield with great footwork, touch and final ball. Most of us had him in at left back for the season but should now expect him to played in both positions depending upon the opposition. Dos Santos was not in the squad...anyone know why? Lennon gave the ball away first half quite a lot as he went looking for it infield. Celtic hardly had a shot and posed little threat.

Benoit was really good, he made loads of runs up the wings got in some great crosses and did one or two little tricks to get past some players. I think BAE will be our left back when we line up against boro.

Dos santos is maybe just getting a rest as he has been involved in all the pre season games before this.

As you said about Bale i think he will end up playing as a left winger, hes very first, has a great cross and can take on players, pretty pointless keeping someone of that skill at left back.

lol @ the amount of people that have to mention BAE's hair-do in their assessments of the teams performance.

The Dreads'll be in next (you heard it here first)

I only watched the highlights for an hour at 1am on Sky Sports 1 but it seemed ok from what I saw. Wasn't too testing but we just kept the ball consistently against near enough their first team. That wasn't ours, not completely anyway.

One thing I did notice is that Berba worked quite hard, tracked back a lot more than he usually does and did a lot of midfield work. Great to see his sublime touch again. ANd I only saw him throw his arms a couple of times. I don't know if he did it anymore?

I have to disagree about Bale, he would be more effective as an attacking and overlapping full back. His positioning when in midfield isn't always the best and he can get well forward from full back.

Yet his defending is a little suspect.

Lets be fair, scottish football is pretty much 'The Championship'.

2 teams that over the last few years have made it far in European Football, and the national team just one place behind England (last time i looked) It might not have the depth of the English league but i wouldn't call Celtic a Championship team.

I am finally convinced we will be fine when Berbatov leave. I think DFF summed it up pretty well.

At times Berba looked a little lost out there today. I mean for fucks sake he shouldn't be dropping so deep when we had Bale, Modric, Bentley on the pitch that are more than capable of creating the chances so he should stay further up field rather than slowing the play down in midfield (something Keane was guilty of as well.)

:lol::shifty:

Really if you had seen any of Celtic's other preseason performances you would realise that the performance by us today was nothing more than ok. I will repeat (having watched all of Celtics televised preseason games and spoken to a few Celtic supporting mates) that Celtic have been bloody awful in preseason.

We didn't make a CL side look ordinary, they did that to themselves and to be honest it makes me sick to see performance like that because Celtic are my second team. :-|

They have been poor, but havn't they always been poor in pre-seaon under GS?

We shouldnt get excited about this result. Beating Celtic pre-season is nothing to be proud of. I know you all get excitied about these nothing competitions that we tend to always do well in, but the simple fact is that Celtic were poor, Spurs were not good. After watching them lose to cardiff and Fulham, i can easily say that Wycombe could probly have done them. In fact, looking at there pre-season results over the last 5 years you can see they never perform, but have still gone on to be Man U, and otehr big European team when it counts.
I just hope everyone dont go expecting us to come above Arsenal, as weve made that mistake too many times before, and still ended up being mid table shit

I understand what your saying we should not get to excited about this result but the signs are looking up, ramos is creating a good team.

wasn't counting, but i think it was more than 2, but certainly nothing to make a point about, except, he seemed more frustrated with himself than others, couple of times, he seem, alittle miffed at Bent (to me) As i commented b4, simply, there partnership needs work...He certainly didnt seem unhappy to be there, looked like the normal Berbs to me. Can see him a Modric, clicking well.

Thought it was a poor performance by Spurs, very simialr to many away games last season. Thought we lacked creativity and imagination, especially in the first half when we had Lennon and Jenas in the side. These two players are very hard workers but unfortunately they don't have a footballing brain.

Bale provided some balance and width second half which gave us more options.

We didn't look like doing anything with the large amounts of possesion we had.

I think it's important we buy another player like Modric to play in the midfield because i don't feel Jenas is the man, especially in away games when you need a little bit more than just hard work.

I can understand why Ramos wants Arshavin because he will provide the extra creativity we will need. We badly lack depth in our side and if one Modric, Dos Santos or Bentley gets injured, we could be screwed.

I thought we did largely ok, never got out of second gear and didnt really need to. Bent scored and had a couple of chances, Jenas had a glorious chance to open the scoring early on.

We still lacked a little bit, I think the full backs didnt get forward enough, mainly because Zokora isnt one and BAE is still working back form his injury.

I thught we looked controlled in possession, we could have been a little better in defence, too many balls got into our box in the first half, but we never really looked in danger.

Still think we need a midfielder who is experienced, defensively and positionally aware just to shore up that defence and provide better cover in front. Dortmund should be a better test.

I can't understand where you're coming from. We completely outplayed Celtic and both Bent and Jenas missed sitters in the first half. Should really have been 3-0 at half-time. I don't know what more you expect in a pre-season friendly.

To say anything other than it being a good performance by the team is beyond me. I thought our creativity was fine for the most part, even with Jenas in the team.

Still I would like Arshavin as well of course.

If you take away the two gifts that were given to us, we didn't create a great deal. Yes, Jenas and Bent missed a sitter each but that happens a lot in matches, you very rarely see a team take all their chances. I feel we should've created more openings against a side that didn't look bothered and allowed us to have so much possesion.

It just reminded me off many matches of last season, especially the away games. I feel pre season is the time to be critical because once the season starts, it could be too late.

Give it time...gee, players dont just all of a suden click and turn on the magic, it will take time for our players to learn the other players games and where they will be moving or where to play the ball for there strenghts!! it is also just pre season and our players fitness is more important here than them turning on the style, i would rather we lsot all our friendlies and got a good workout and our players get fit than them smash teams 7-0 or 10-2 and get nothing out of the game due to it being too easy, a walking pace game and no real test!

Pre-season matches mean practically nothing mate and don't tell much about anything.

For a pre-season I think we played really, really well against good quality opposition.

Celtic are fucking horseshit, along with the rest of scottish football.

some mug on here tried to tell me otherwise when Zenit ripped Rangers to pieces, but last night Celtic had absolutely nothing.
