Just wondering if the Carling cup is like the FA cup in that if the winners are already competing in europe the next season which Chelscum undoubtable will be then by getting to the final does that mean we are in the UEFA cup again next season? I have a bad feeling it's not like that in the Carling cup and it's only the FA Cup that has that policy therefore we'd need to win the CC to qualify for UEFA cup next year?

Could anyone please clear this up.
thanks.

p.s. great performance from the lads vs man.U today Dawson was a little unlucky but a silly error all the same and we looked again very good.

Let's not think about relying on things like that!!

We need to win it anyway, but let's try achieve our place in the CL by winning not one, but both cups

that's why I couldn't understand why people were saying the uefa and carling were more important than the FA Cup. Winning uefa doesn't get you in, losing the carling won't. yet if we had got through today there are only 6 premiership teams left and so the final would have been a reasonable bet, and chances are arse or chelscum would have made it giving the other finalist a place win or lose.

Yes, it does.

I found the rules on UEFA.com once and checked it, and the UEFA Cup winner will be guaranteed UEFA Cup football even if they don't qualify for it in their domestic competitions.

Download pdf from http://www.uefa.com/competitions/uefacup/format/newsid=316965.html

Article 1.06 states

1.06 Unless the UEFA Cup title-holder qualifies for the UEFA Champions League through its domestic championship, it will be guaranteed a place in the first round of the UEFA Cup. If the title-holder does qualify for the UEFA Cup through its domestic competitions, the number of places to which its national association is entitled in the UEFA Cup does not change. If the UEFA Cup title-holder does not qualify for either the UEFA Champions League or UEFA Cup through its domestic competitions, its participation in the UEFA Cup will not be at the expense of the contingent of its association.

Now I'm not very good at this sort of language, but it seems to me like this means that we are guaranteed a place in the UEFA Cup should we win the tournament.

when chelsea beat us the UEFA Cup place will go to 6th team in the league
I think you are wrong!! If the team that wins the Carling Cup qua tlifies for the Champions league then the runners up are invited into the EUFA cup!!!! There are 4 places 5th 6th FA Cup winners and Carling Cup winners. If you think you are right then the EUFA cup places will probably go down to the 8th place in the league this year!!!

Sorry to disappoint you, but if the rules haven't changed since Wigan lost to Man U in 2006 then the CC loser does not go into the UEFA Cup.
And there are only 3 places for England, 5th + Carling (6th) + FA (Fa loser, 7th)

Sigh. This again. You have to win the Carling Cup to get a place in Europe.

We should get the Mods to sticky a thread on this.

erm.. fair play only affects PL incidences!

I was wandering through a 4x4 motoring forum a few minutes ago when the penny dropped. I was hoping to
sneak back here and change/amend the post before everyone realised I'm a simpering old fart !
