We have been drawn at home to Brentford in the semi-finals of the Carabao Cup.
The draw was made this evening (Wednesday 23 December), a couple of hours after our 3-1 win at Stoke City in the last eight.
Manchester United will host Manchester City in the other semi-final.

Our last six competitive meetings with Brentford have all come in the League Cup.
This season, semi-final ties will be one-legged and must be decided on the night.
Ties are scheduled to be played in the week commencing 4 January, 2021. Exact details will be confirmed in due course.

Great draw though. I have a real soft spot for Brentford. They were my local club when I first move to London, and mate friends with a couple of their season ticket holders. It would have been great to go along to their new ground.

If Brentford had to choose who they would've wanted in the semi, they probably would have chosen us so win win.

Assuming we beat them of course. Can new January signings play in the final?

This League Cup run has some similarities with the 2014-15 one.

We got the perceived easier draw with Sheffield United who were in the second tier whilst Chelsea slugged it out with Liverpool in the perceived more difficult tie, and they just about prevailed over Liverpool in extra time and who was Chelsea's manager....none other than Mourinho.....

We nearly cocked it up as Sheffield United scored two late goals to go 2-1 up after we went 1-0 up on the night and 2-0 up over both legs and as it was heading to extra time Eriksen scored with a couple of mins to go to send us to the final.

We all know what happened in the final as we lost 2-0.

It was Poch's first taste of a final with us as he only joined in 2014. In his first full season. We all know what happened when he got us to major semi finals or one other really major final....

We hired Mourinho with the specific brief of getting us over the line in those fine margins where we had previously came up short just near the finishing line.

In Mourinho's first full season he is now at the exact point where Poch was in his first full season.

We have the perceived easier tie with Brentford whilst Man United slug it out with Man City in the other semi final ala 2014-15 all over again. Will it be different this time ? It was the exact reason why JM was hired and I suspect this irony won't be lost on Levy.... We might not have to wait too long to know whether the outcome will be different this time around.

Will JM have that extra factor to get us over the line at Wembley if we make it past Brentford and come up against one of the big boys who we have faltered against in the recent past when it comes to the crunch......only time will tell.
