A polarisation of outlook.

Harry Redknapp has actually said publicly that we could do without Europe if it is not Champions League Europe.

The Wednesday travelling to far flung places for a Thursday evening ninety minutes over winter, getting back home mid Friday morning to ready the ship for a (hopefully) Sunday pursuit of three points to stay in the race for top four plus....

On the other hand, the club's stock in Europe is high and our presence will only enhance our reputation, as well as provide opportunities to give the kids a sniff.

Reading some of the threads prior to the game today, the impression was generally that a) we had little chance of grabbing fifth and b) should we be putting in the effort to acquire that opportunity, given Harry's comments.

I believe that we belong in Europe and playing in European competition will give us a solid platform with which to mount a challenge domestically and also to attract the players to do so.

Three points against Birmingham City and we can once again welcome European football to the Lane.

i really want europe. It gives us a chance to play the fringe players and also some of the youngsters. A couple of years ago the likes of Bostock, Smith, Mason, Obika and Parrett all made their debuts for us in this comp and id like to see more of that. Having the possibility of 1 game (if go out in the 1st round of carling cup) for the youth players isnt enough - regular games alongside the likes of Bassong, Niko, Jenas, Palacios etc etc can only be good for everyone imo. Then if we make it into the later rounds we can bring in some of the bigger names and have a go at winning a european trophy

Bring Europe on.

There are some prestigious teams in the EL, and I want to be playing them.

Above all, I want to see Tottenham win a European trophy.

Porto, Athletico Madrid, Seville, Valencia, Liverpool. These are big teams. Not the biggest teams. But I would be proud to add our name to the list of recent winners.

That didn't stop them losing 2-0 at home to a Fulham team with nothing to play for!

fair point mate! i guess its just the spurs way to be concerned, even when playing a poor team who have scored the least amount of goals in the league!

i absolutely didnt want it before, but it means we will have more chances to see tottenham in action next season if we're in it. if harry concentrates on the league and leaves EL for only fringe players then im happy to be in it. the main thing is the money aquired from 5th and EL especiall with fairplay rules.

Seeing Man City lift the FA Cup this year has really got me hankering for a trophy next year and why not the Europa League trophy!

If we want to be classed as a top side then we need to be in European competition, year in year out, not to mention it will increase our club profile, albeit on a lessor scale than the Champions League but nonetheless this will improve our European stature and also our co-efficient.

Tottenham Hotspur needs European football and mores the point, European football needs Tottenham Hotspur!

I think any fans not wanting Europa League are a bit deluded. Yes it's a long old slog and not as glamourous as the Champions League, but it is Europe. Remember how we celebrated that first 5th placed finish under Jol? And how we enjoyed those few campaigns in the UEFA Cup? We're not suddenly too big for it, it's still a success.

I think it's a mistake to act like we don't want or need Europa. At the end of the day its money and it's continental football.

Sure, if you think it will jeopardise the league campaign then you play your reserve team, but to just ignore it and wish you weren't in it is just wrong.

Some of the best goals Berbs scored for us were in the UC. Good times.

I'm really looking forward to it next year. I just hope we take it seriously, because we can win it.

I've said all along that I would love us to be in the europa if we can't get cl. It's a no brainer for me. As others have said in the group stage it is a great chance for Harry to shuffle the pack. If we make some new signings and they're not able to break into the team straight away then the EL would be a good competitive platform for them. For example for someone like Sandro it was difficult for him to get his chance earlier on in the season as every league game was tight and important and obviously he wasn't registered for the CL squad, for a similar player next season I can see the EL being ideal.

And if we can get to the latter stages then would be nice for us to try and win it. Of course it's a shame that Uefa have completely messed with the format and it's a joke that CL teams drop in but it is what it is so we just need to go with it. Let's hope we just go out and smash Brum, I'd prefer Wigan to stay up too.

Unfortunately, the overriding memory for me is the infamous 'Getafe match' but we have had some good times in the old UEFA Cup.

I also remember when we lost to PSV on penalties and a certain Mr Gomes was absolutely on fire that match - made a save from Malbranque that was unbelievable!

My main bad memory was going into the game against Seville at the lane with Steed scoring a terrible own goal and Kanoute scoring straight after.

Kanoute and Gomes putting us out...the ghosts of spurs past and future Eek

Besiktas away, Berbatov was incredible. Such a hostile atmosphere and yet got a standing ovation from the whole crowd when he was substituted. How I wish we still had him. :-(

I've been saying for a while that I don't want Europa next year and want to focus on the league, however, if we beat Brum next week, I hope we go about the Europa the right way. We should be seeded first and by playing a skeleton team (Fringe players/rotation etc.) away from home in the group stage, then a skeleton team + couple first teamers at home, we should get there as winner of the group. From there on out I'd like to see us try and win it. Quarters of the CL, then late stages of UEFA next year, will help our co-efficient and also get our name more known around Europe.

Me too. Especially considering the midfield providing him would be so much better.
