Good interview with LeTiss on the football weekly podcast. Genuinely nice guy, should have been an england legend. He talks about being hours away from signing for spurs, personal terms drawn up and every thing. Changed his mind at the last minute.

+1 - worth a listen.

Are we talking players who genuinely lived up to their ability, but still failed to win anything, or players who never lived up to their ability?

I was thinking players who lived up to their ability but feel free to add other suggestions. I thought it would make for an interesting discussion and I was right because I've already learned who pooed in Mark Lawrenson's kit bag.

I should probably mention one of my boyhood heroes is as well. Steve Bull was an absolute legend in the lower leagues and was also part of the England Italia 90 squad (chosen over Arsenals Alan Smith).

Just entered this thread .. The Belfast Boy also won 2 First Division titles in 1964/5 and 1966/67.

I couldn't remember what else he won, but I can remember sitting in front of a grainy black & white TV watching the 1968 European Cup Final. Was at Wembley IIRC.

Yeah the Benfica match.

It struck me because we played them in the 1967 charity shield so they had to, of course, have won the league to get into the European Cup. Crazy.

I was fortunate to see him play many times in those halcyon days.

Me too, not only for Man U but for N Ireland too both at Wembley and Windsor Park in the old Home Internationals. My Dad was from Belfast so was a huge fan of Georgie.
