I couldn't see him back at WHL yet, but he could come back in a couple of seasons, when he has earned so much that the money becomes of secondary importance to happiness?

He wants trophies. All top footballers do. They already have enough money. That's why he won't be back with us. We've three trophies in the last 30 years. He could win that in one season at Real. He's won four already in his two and a half seasons there, more than us in the last three decades!

Get on the next plane to Spain . Stand infront of the Bernabeu with a huge banner saying come back home Gareth. The lot of you. Ofcourse it won't work but will sure make a heck of a headline!

It is his own fault for moving to the mess that is Real Madrid. This is a club that does not seem to care about building a team. They sign players because of their name not that they fit into the team. The fact is with the money Real have spent they should be a better team.

Come back and let Poch and his team transform you to a better player than what you were before.

He's not a fool for moving there in the first place, but he'd be a fool if he spent another unhappy season there after this one.

Levy, send him an enormous bouquet of white lilies and get Bale back at the lane, in time for our Champions League campaign next season!

:D

Or we could just let it go and and see where he lands in the prem.

Know what though, don't know why, if I was a footballer who ha no real relationship with a club I'd love to trot out for Bayern. No idea why, no real love or hate of the club but it just seems a kind of classier European superpower. Ya know.

Cue all the bundesliga fans disagreeing. I wont disagree with you, not enough skin in the game to do so. It's just that RM seems a little eh, Disneyland to me. Always has tbh. I would include Meelarn in with Bayern but who knows what it's like today. Maybe it's just a nostalgic throwback to my very, very early days of watching the EC as a 7/8 yr old. Bayern and AC just seemed like the ever luvvin' shit!

It saddens me to say it, but he ticks all the boxes for a move to OT, in that he's become a player whose wages and transfer value are unrelated to his performances on the pitch, i.e. a classic trophy signing.
though you realise that Manu are not a champions league team!

Real Madrid have always struck me as a type of football Harlem Globetrotters, ie. not a real football club. Yeah they can buy all the best players but there's never really a 'plan' to the purchases and the fans aren't proper fans. Just people that show up to see a thumping and when that doesn't happen, out with the comedy white hankies like people who have just seen a poor theatre production. It's all very hollow, but they do pay well!

Can't stand Barcelona either for what it's worth...

Good points. It's not really about the football at that club now. Just a strange disconnect to my mind. I also have no love for Barca. Always had a soft spot for Aletico for some reason.
