AVB vs. the home support

While I partially agree with what AVB says, I do think he could have said it a lot better.

The atmosphere at the Lane hasn't been good for a couple of seasons now, a lot of this, in my opinion is down to the negative tactics employed by visiting teams, who are increasingly coming to the Lane looking to defend for 90 minutes.

We, as fans, need to accept this and get used to it. For most teams, getting a point at the Lane is now almost as good as a win. It really is a measure of just how far we have risen over the last few years.

Spurs fans have been spoilt over the years, with both teams, more often than not, going for the win which resulted in fast paced, open games.

A couple of seasons? I think you're being kind. The last time I can remember a decent full season of suport was when Jol was in charge between 2005/2006 and when Hoddle was in charge between 2001/2002.

I got as far as Page 6 and couldn't take the bullshit any more. It's been a while since I posted on SC, and I'm a little saddened that it has to be something like this that marks a return.

I have one very simple question for the likes of FinnYid and Francis Gibbs and those of their ilk (I'm sure you know who you are):

My question is this:

Is your support of Spurs conditional?

Guys we have to remember that we got plenty of new faces that will need time to grow into the EPL. We got to give the lads some time to settle. I think AVB has made a great job, with so meany new player and being able to reach the 4th place, by now. GUYS COME ON ! A few years back we could just dream of fighting for the CL places. We spurs fans need to come down on earth and support the team in good and bad times. COYS!

We Are In A Dream, But Are We Living In It?

Try to enjoy the dream. Support Our team, COYS !!

Incredible that at half-time the manager is having to tell the players to ignore the crowd and that they won't get any support.

Not only that I wouldn't be surprised if some of the players asked AVB to say something in his interview.

Our home support couldn't be any worse, you don't even need to sing just shouting encouragement, clapping and getting on the officials backs etc will at least create noise and atmosphere.

It's a morgue and that's being ambitious.

Except that's bullshit. He's clearly feeding back from what the players have said so it's nothing to do with AVB feeling any pressure.
Really? The only thing that is clear is that this is your opinion which isn't supported by the fact that all the players to a man clapped the fans from the centre of the pitch as they left

The atmosphere needs lifting. Its obvious it isn't based on today's performance and atmosphere, it has been going on for a while this atmosphere. We need that buzz back to give the team a lift! Lets turn it around! COYS!

We've all noticed how the atmosphere at home has become poisonous when things aren't going entirely our way. Well, AVB has too.

Backing from the stands can have a strong effect on player performance. Let this please be a wake-up call and not another excuse to spout shit about AVB. Yes, the football hasn't been inspiring, but the home support has been downright atrocious so far this season.

The guy is absolutely right.................."We have never had it so good"

Shit, where did we hear that before?

I think that says more about the fans than the players

Perhaps I am being a bit kind. I wasn't a season ticket holder when Hoddle was in charge, but I certainly remember the great atmosphere when Jol was in charge during the 2005/2006 season.

I'm not saying it's the sole reason for a decline in atmosphere, but I do wonder if todays ticket prices are a a factor in the decline in atmosphere. My season ticket has gone up by over £300 since the 2005/2006 season.

I thought against West Ham, it was one of the better atmospheres we have had at home for the first half in a long time.

The football was diabolical.

Today....the football was diabolical. And we had the normal expectancy of steam rolling a small team.

Had we not scored, there would have been booing at the end and it would have been fully justified.

There are more problems than "we don't move the ball quick enough" and "we can keep going backwards" which is all I hear.

There are 2 reasons to go backwards at 0-0. To regain shape ready for a new attack, and to have a breather.

We tend to have a 90 minute breather.....and here is why.

Our shape when we have the ball is too spread out over the pitch. The wingers were stuck to the touchline today. Lennon had about 3 kicks. Paulinho and Holtby were in the pocket, but their movement was poor, slow and unincisive, and they start too far up. What this all means is, instead of players having quick support, to play nice little one-twos, and keep it in trangles, and try to get overloads going, our players, get crowded out and have to go backwards. It's fucking painful to watch,

I watched Arsenal keep the ball for the first 20 minutes yesterday. The "wide men" Cazorla and Ramsey, were everywhere. They interchanged freely with Ozil in the middle. They got near to each other, and they dominated the ball. We dominate the ball, but its 30 yards deeper than the top teams do.

The wingers and attacking midfielders have to interchange.
They have to get closer to each other, so that the passing can be one and two touch, instead of 5-6 touches and then a backwards pass. It's exactly this which gives the impression of ponderous attacking play, and negativity.
Paulinho and Holtby have to be brave enough to go beyond the back four, or go wide and drag their markers around.
When the ball is on one flank the other winger has to tuck in, get in the box, or go looking for a ball in the middle of the park so that you drag defenders out of their comfort zone, and allow the full back to give the width instead.

These are all basics of attacking, that we simply do not do at home, and haven't now since Jan 2011.

Either the coach is instructing this, in which case he needs a rethink. Or we have lazy players. I think it's the former, because no matter who plays, they play the same way.

There was a time I would have liked to see us win dirty, more often, but surely there is a balance here? We are trying to nick a result every week, and as we found out last year, in the end we will come up short.

I don't blame the fans for not being inspired and staying away in their droves today, I know no fewer than 12 people who couldn't be bothered. Like it or not, we are fucking boring. And I won't even resort to the excuse that the opposition are parking the bus, because that has been far from the case with a lot of sides we've played. Teams think they can get a result at the Lane, and that HAS to change.

Soldado, isn't offering enough off the ball. Sorry to say. His contribution is that of a more clinical Defoe at the minute.

this was the 2nd game i took my 8yr old son, and he said he felt sleepy in the first half.

on the flip side we won, clean sheet after playing on Thursday. Which was a hard fought battle.

we need to appreciate the technicalities of football to realize AVB is transforming our style of football, you have to forget all that high tempo game as we are now a solid team, 5 goals conceded only, lost count of the cleansheets. A clinical striker to finish the goodies. Long make it continue.

Its worrying the players feel this way. I think of the likae of Ginola, Klinsmann, and to some extent VDV who feel something passionately for our club, and a lot of that had to do with the fans. We always had good support.

AVB words have been vindicated because the same topic as been raised up on here. The problem is whether it washes off on the general fan base who don't partake in internet discussion. They now have a reason to turn on him when things do start to go south.
