Saka is good but he hasn't kicked on from the hype surrounding him. Doesn't really stand out to me anyway.
He looked properly brilliant for a lot of last season but he's been overplayed. Doesn't have anywhere near the same vigour this season and that's squarely on Arteta's management.

I saw a video a while ago detailing why Rice has actually stopped them being such a free flowing side. He’s not as nimble or agile as Partey or Xhaka, and so they aren’t progressing then all in the same way, so I wonder if that’s making Saka look worse than last season too.

No doubt Rice is a great player, but their signings in general have been terrible.

Off the top of my head... can't be assed looking at the prices so I'll just guess...

Ramsdale 25m (disgruntled number 2)
White 50m (CB now playing as an average RB)
Tomiyasu 20m (average)
Timber 25m (1 game and injured)
Zinchenko 35m (full back who can't defend or midfielder that doesn't affect the game)
Partey 40m (you all know)
Jorginho 10m (finished)
Havertz 60m (average)
Viera 40m (too lightweight and not good enough)
Trossard 25m (29 and ok)
Jesus 45m (a striker who doesn't score that often)

That is really terrible. Considering they've spent half a billion in recent times that's a massive waste of dosh.

Out of all those signings if they were available for free tomorrow, which ones would you have at spurs?

trossard and Ramsdale i would put down as good signings. Ramsdale got screwed over for no reason, why did they bring in Raya when Ramsdale was more than serviceable

Probably take a risk on Timber if I’m honest and before Legohead can ruin him. He was a good player before he went there.
The arrogance and narcissism of Legohead will be his downfall in the long run imo. I am in the rate Saka camp personally, but anyone can see that he has been overplayed in the last couple of years, and even when he is clearly injured - really poor management.
Another possibility is Ramsdale. A decent keeper and his clearly bonkers family might be good entertainment!.

Must be why Saka likes a lie down in the penalty area every match lol

Tbf he has deffo been overplayed but I guess with Jesus and Martinelli injuries etc they can’t really rely on anyone to stick the ball in the net on a consistent basis. Nketiah still raw.

Last line caught my eye. I was surprised to see Nketiah is turning 25 in May. Thought he was much younger than that!

I think Trossard has been useful as a squad player for them. Seems to have bagged a few goals off the bench? Timber, due to his age, I would take. But that's about it.

Classic case of signing players who fit a very rigid system but don't really add a great deal of quality.

All good players but not really outstanding.

For example, Arteta wanted Zinchenko cause he wanted his LB to step into midfield and give another shape.

He wanted Jesus for his movement and ability to pull defenders out.

Yet neither of them are that top level player.

All of Arteta's signings have been about helping his rigid system work but at some point you need quality and players who are unpredictable.

Comparing Zinchenko with Udogie. Udogie can do a number of roles but he also has a high ceiling because of his physical and technical qualities. He will contribute with goals and assists. You can't say the same about Zinchenko who is more of a cog in the system.

Arteta has signed too many cogs but not many that can accellerate it

I've thought this as well, because I was afraid that if/when he gets the sack, they might actually hire a competent manager that can get them over the line. Then I came to the same realization you did. Whoever comes in will likely have a different style of football that would render a lot of their squad unsuitable. Given the money they've spent on players like Rice and Havertz (over 300k wages), and some of the contract renewals to the likes of Nketiah (who's on 100k wages), if they don't work out, they'll be in deep trouble to add to the squad given FFP. The next 2/3 years is crucial to them hence why Legohead seems an emotional wreck when things don't go their way.

Issue with Arsenal and the "star" players, is the fanbase goes crazy after 12 minutes of a good performance.

Saka is the best winger in the world, Saliba best CB in the world, Odegaard is the best midfielder to ever grace the game. Overhyped by the fanbase and then overplayed by the manager.

They do like to get excited don't they but then it leads to a hissyfit when the reality doesn't match what they think lol, their fans meltdowns are something else.

Yeah I agree although I'd say they have a bit of a base to build on. Rice, Saliba, Saka can be built around. Maybe a few more.

I think this summer they needed to add a real difference maker.

A player that will win you a good amount of games.

Those players are hard to find and obtain.

But then they spent 100m on Rice and 50m on Havertz.

Why not 70m on 2 huge players that would reallt add something in terms of quality and make a difference.
