If Conte turned us down, no way will he go there. If they sack Arteta, they’ll end up with a ‘yes man’ like Eddie Howe

Nah fully fit - it's actually not that bad. I definitely think Conte might be tempted as they have a decent foundation already for his 3atb.

They also have a lot of young players who should only get better.

True, but there’s several reasons why that side wouldn’t be 100% even if fit:

1. Partey has had a shocking time with injuries. His confidence could be low. He’s also going to be under a lot of pressure to deliver.
2. Maitland-Niles wants to leave. A few others might also, they don’t have the stomach for a fight.
3. Aubameyang is a lazy c—t
4. The whole team seems to lack direction and confidence.

I think a tough guy manager like Conte would scream himself hoarse trying to instil some discipline and motivation. I am not convinced he would come in before January when they could be in mega shit with relegation. Even if Conte came in January, anyone signed would almost certainly leave in the event of going down. Any decent international player would want to be at a top tier side. Don’t forget, a World Cup is coming soon, and nobody wants to miss out.

My guess would be Allardyce and some loans from cash strapped big clubs in La Liga and Serie A.

If they really tried they could get the Brentford boss, and I hope they don’t. He’s good!

Agree we’re laughing now but if they keep all their youth they will do well. Two will probably be long term England internationals. They produce youth players with technique, pace and skill. Whereas we seem to get rid of these types of players too easily.

To be honest it doesn't look as bad as I thought, but that has to be assuming everyone is in good form. Aubameyang is declining, and is already massively anonymous in a lot of games, Partey can't stay fit, Tierney has fitness issues, Tomiyasu we don't know how he'll adapt, White has already had a very tough time and that was just after a game against Brentford. I can't see how Conte would be tempted by something that hasn't been seen and that may not even work well.

I look at that team and think maybe it's not so bad, I don't look at it and think that's a really good side.

There are a few massive problems with that side.

- Odegaard is not a player that can play in a midfield 2. Their midfield would be overrun every game which would put a lot of pressure on a very inexperienced back 3.
- Partey is constantly injured and still needs to adapt to the league.
- Lack of goals. Smith-Rowe for all the nice touches creates very little and is non existent infront of goal and Saka doesn’t strike me as the type of player that will ever get you 15-20 goals.

Once they get both Gabriel and white back in the first team they will stop leaking so many goals and move up the table. On paper they are a top10 team in my opinion.

They're definitely a top 10 team on paper, I don't think that's even up for discussion. The fact that we're talking about Arsenal as a top 10 side as oppose to top 4/6 is pretty sweet though.

But football isn't played on paper. Loads of teams with excellent footballers in them have struggled because of various situations on and off the pitch that has played on players' minds and caused them to underperform. If the stories we heard about the squad turning on Arteta are true, they could struggle for a long while further because in this game of fine margins a well-drilled, well-organised, high-morale squad will over a season perform better than a ragtag bunch of talented misfits who don't like their manager.

I still expect Arsenal to finish top 10, I had them 8th in my prediction and their squad is good enough to get that, but it won't take many more bad decisions for them to spiral completely.

Smart transfer moves by Arsenal this year. Can't lose players to international duty if you don't sign internationals...

It’s shocking how far they’ve fallen really, like you say talking about them as a top ten team rather than top four etc.

On paper they should get 8th or higher, but thinking back so should our teams in the nineties, but we mostly finished around 10th to 14th back then.

I expected this from the moment they hired Emry. He sounded like a great manager till you realize his only real achievement was winning Europa league (NO CL winning pedigree) and the domestic treble in the French league (with PSG and unlimited funds which anyone, including my dogs, could have done. The quality difference between PSG and the rest meant you don't have to do much more than keep the egos happy). Good manager for where Arsenal are now but not for a team that wanted to win CL and the Premier league. Then they hired Arteta who has NO managerial experience or trophies and that was a clear statement to me that they have given up on being a top 4 team and are content to go back to battling for mid table glory.

To be fair he did win europa 3 consecutive times. And think when he was appointed still in getting in was an achievement.

Big difference between winning Europa and winning Champions League. For a club that wants to win CL it is simply not the right experience

Mesut Özil has fallen out at Fenerbache

I'm not one to gloat at peoples misery, but once in a while I make an exception. I can't help it. He's a straight up douche

The quote from Arteta "We are all behind this project"
Yep I for one am right behind you- keep going the way you are and take them to the Championship

They're definitely a top 10 team on paper, I don't think that's even up for discussion.

How old is that paper? I would not say they are a "definite" top-10 team today.

They had a tough open to the schedule, which masks their true level, but when I look at that team - on paper - there isn't anything about it to suggest they are definitely in the top-half. Its a pretty mediocre mid-table squad. The certainly could finish in the top-10, but its not a definite.

Definitely better - on paper - this season: Spurs, Chelsea, Man United, Man City, Liverpool, West Ham, Leicester, Everton

Then Arsenal are in the same tier as: Villa, Leeds, Wolves, and maybe Brighton - where they fall in that group determines if they make top-10.
