If they sign Pepe, they’re having a better window than us. I genuinely don’t get how we are so fucking relaxed when there’s however little time left. Remember early in the window when we were laughing at their budget? They’re going to spend far more than us.

To be fair our window's been underwhelming so far. Yes we have replaced Dembele and signed a youth prospect, but that's all the business we done in 2 years. The fact we all laughed at Arsenal's coming back to bite us...

Pepe's an excellent player. Whether he's worth £72m is debatable - but the "value" of players is so subjective now. It's relative to other signings taking place at the time, how badly the buying team want the player and how badly the selling need the money or for the player to leave. If Coutinho is worth £140m then Pepe is a great deal for £72m (which makes the Ndombele deal look like a bargain).

He's clearly their Zaha alternative but I'd argue a better one, although he'll have to prove himself in the Premier League.

And whilst it's a little cringeworthy that Arsenal fans think this is a step towards the title, I've seen similar comments by Spurs fans following the Ndombele's signing.

But like... have they signed a defender to fix their glaring issues for the past couple of seasons especially when Koscielny is as good as off?

Pepe is a great player no doubt... but why? They're struggling to get Tierney through the door and are losing their captain so... is this actually really a good window for them?

Ceballos is a good prospect but it's a loan so they're not gonna get his best. Sabilla isn't till next year.

I'd be a lot more concerned if they were linked to a couple of quality CBs than Pepe.

I imagine there are defenders in the 70-80mil range that could absolutely transform their defence, VVD style. Oh well.

They are. Everyone has their wires crossed. They are actually signing 35 year old centre back Pepe from Sporting.

Same. Like sure I'd prefer them to sign no one. And not gonna try and say Pepe isn't good but I don't get why this is the area their spending money on, especially when it seems like they really don't have much money

Arsenal need to improve just about every position bar their strikers. They can't fix every problem in one window and clearly think they need someone like him considering the supposed bids for Zaha. If he's as good as he's supposed to be then he'll easily improve them now and in the long term.
