We are basically playing 4-4-0

8-2-0 more like Sitting back doesn't help us. Gallas has to stop dragging us deep. Hudd and Sandro need to push out and give us options so we can punish them for over committing

Utd were losing when they lost a DEFENDER so went for it and got caught out. We were winning when a STRIKER got sent off. As Punky has pointed out, losing a striker should not affect out midfield and our defense, at least not directly anyway.

We've bottled it and been shown up for the shambles we are.

The way I see it is this: we're not equipped with the players to defend stoutly like Stoke or Everton, so the tactics today were to go with two up front and attack them. Try to expose their defence more than they expose ours. Pretty much what the majority of SC had been calling for. And it works too, until the fulcrum of the attack goes mental and gets sent off. Having not been set up in the first place to defend resolutely it's not a surprise that we can't suddenly switch that on, or that in 3 month AVB hasn't got the team drilled in how he wants them to deal with every situation on field. Consequently the players go into their shell, back off and yield possession - which is harder to keep with 10 men and no out ball to Ade anyway. Arsenal are adept at breaking this down because they've had years of practice at it - incidentally they didn't start off being good at it, they had to learn it through experience. We've gone from playing a game that suits us to one that suits them.

So what do we do? Ideally we change things at half time to better match them, the problem is I don't believe we have the players in the squad to do it. It would take something radical like playing Bale up front - he's useless defensively anyway. Even then, we're probably still going to lose the game.

All we can hope for is that Arsenal come out for the second half feeling overconfident and gift us a way back.

Keep telling yourself that.

I will because it's a fact. What the fuck are you talking about? Saying that losing a creative player who holds the ball up shouldn't impact our possession is dumb whatever way you look at it.

I'm not sure what your motive here is but it's not to objectively examine the situation.

anyone else pining for chimbonda? and corluka obv
I've pined for Corluka ever since he left, Walker did very well most of last season but I never got the stick Corluka got on here, sure he's a bit slow but such a calm and classy full back.

People saying AVB can't motivate the players. They seemed pretty motivated to me in those first 20 mins.

What I have not liked is the mentality of the players at 1-1.

Holy crap, three at the back? AVB has nothing to lose and shows it there, if we get thrashed it's not his fault, if we come back it's the greatest switch of all time.

Have you not been reading this thread?! If we get thrashed he should be hung, drawn and quartered (after being sacked); if we win, it'll be down to Gooners being shit and nothing to do with him ;)
