AVB is still being deceived by his size and 'flare'...it might take a little longer for him to see that he really only has as much stature as Carroll in reality. Some managers just have to learn the hard way.

The problem AVB can't see through the mass that is Holdingstone. The only way is to see through his legs, but AVB is not squatting these days.

Spurs team - Lloris; Walker, Gallas, Vertonghen, Naughton; Lennon, Sandro, Huddlestone, Bale; Adebayor, Defoe
so, 4-4-2 today,.... intersting and I must say it appears a very positive attitude from AVB -- to dare is to do, right?

My worry with 442 is that with Lennon and Bale out wide they won't bother to get back on the cover and our central 2 will have to cover across the entire midfield.

First off, Lloris in goal is a great decision made and hopefully is there to stay and whilst it's unfortunate about Caulker picking up a knock, at least it allows Vertonghen to start in his comfortable position of CB and Naughton provides extra pace to combat the pace of Walcott.

Unfortunately though, Sandro will be fucking blowing hard come the end of the 90 minutes as in a four man midfield with Bale, Lennon and Huddlestone, he will be carrying the workload of chasing the talented trio of Arteta, Wilshere and Carzola - nullifying them as best we can is where this game will be won or lost and it's going to be extremely difficult with our system and personnel.

We will of course be a threat on the counter and would expect Adebayor to peel out wide left which might allow Bale to come inside more and attack Mertesacker and they are definitely vulnerable at the back but ultimately, we will be working with around 40% possession for the majority of the match and of we don't all work our bollocks off then it could be a long day indeed.

Nevertheless, COYS!

Seems like AVB lurks in this forum - liking the team selection today very much!

We need to get at them and don't let their middle 3 dictate play. If we get the ball down the flanks will draw them all out of position to cover. Sitting back=suicide

They'll use their midfield numbers to gain control of possession and press us deep. They'll get more and more confident until their fullbacks and deeper laying midfield players also get involved. Unfortunately for them Sandro is not actually human and they aren't allowed to break us down through the middle. He'll snap someone, pass it 10 yards to huddlestone who's gunna "have it" up the field straight to Ade. Lennon and Bale break with him, square it to Defoe who pokes in to an empty net. Repeat ad finem. Can't possibly go wrong. Probably. Yeh

We cannot sit back with this formation or we will be 3-0 down after half an hour

im not sure this is the best game to go 442 in, ballsy move. Also, ballsy putting lloris in between the sticks too in such a high profile match!
this just gives a BIG time player the opportunity to come up BIG in a BIG game -- Lloris was signed as a BIG time player, #1 keeper for France and now Spurs. He has the chance to show it today -- c'mon Hugo, be BIG!!!!

With our 4-4-2 set up he may have many opportunities today :playful:

Sorry to pick on your post m8 but FFS I wish Spurs fans would make up their minds!!!

mate, dont get me wrong - i like this line up, we tend to play better when we are a bit more open. but as we saw in the corresponding match last season, 442 was suicide! we have been playing 4231 all year - why change it for THIS game... horses for courses and all, i think this is the wrong course...

Not that you can ever put much stock by anything you read in the newspapers, but this is from an article in the Telegraph, which is on the front page of SC:

Villas-Boas, who intends to play striker Emmanuel Adebayor against his former club, indicated Tottenham Hotspur’s priority would be to exploit the defensive vulnerabilities that Arsenal had shown in last weekend’s 3-3 draw with Fulham.

So hopefully we're not going there to sit back. Picking Defoe and Adebayor up front doesn't indicate it either. Fingers crossed.

Actually i've got everything crossed. fingers, toes, testicles, the lot.
