But, hutchinho, you're forgetting that he does want Rose. So, he could swap Shaw (whom he doesn't like & who's contract is running down) & Martial (a bench warmer) for the best LB in the Premier. Meanwhile, we replace an unhappy Rose with Shaw, who worked great with Poch previously and Martial who is unhappy & wants to go elsewhere.
Not saying it would ever happen, but it's interesting that all parties would benefit

Maybe. Would we get Shaw AND Martial for Rose in a swap though?
Do swap deals even happen?

But if it did, I'm not sure Shaw can get fully fit and most importantly trust that fitness. I think he's had his best days sadly.
Davies could easily keep him benched this season even IF he gets healthy.

Martial for Rose could be mutually beneficial though I could see that.

I don't understand why anyone wants Shaw or why they think he's better than our very own Davies? I think Shaw is bang average. I'd much rather get Sessgnon in as understudy and as long-term replacement for Davies.

Shaw pre-injury was not bang average and was definitely a better WB than Davies. It doesn't look like he has recovered from his injury so I wouldn't sign him but let's not descend to RedCafe levels regarding opposing players.

True re Shaw pre-injury, but he's been badly managed since, and it feels like a long time ago he was playing well. Further injuries, confidence, bizarre comments from Mourinho... it makes him a risky signing for any club.

I do think, however, Spurs would be better going for Sessegnon instead of Shaw. Rose is injured/unfit and unlikely to play for a few months, so doubtful he'll leave until January at the earliest. Not sure about Shaw's status right now, but he's struggled for fitness for a while now so unlikely to be up to Spurs' level.

Martial would be a very good signing. Shaw less so. Sessegnon for next season would suit us down to the ground. Even if it means, reluctantly, losing Rose.

IF Martial was to come in, surely two of Sissoko, Nkoudou, or Lamela would be on their way out? Martial would start and son moved to the bench...

Sorry I disagree. I've never been impressed by him and said as much before United signed him. He was good for his age but you could tell he had zero x factor, limited technically and little room for improvement. He's not bad, just average.

Because if there isnt another sell on clause in his contract, then why would United accept a 70million where they have to pass on 35million to Monaco vs 50million where they keep it all.

It's 50% on the money over 50 mil. If they sold him for 70 that'd mean 50+10=60 million..

Son who scored 14 league goals for us last season?

I'd stick with Son personally.

Exactly, it's like the 40% tax bracket. You don't instantly lose 40% of your entire wages when you go over 44k or whatever the threshold is, you pay 40% on anything you earn after the threshold

I wonder if anyone else wants to come in to this thread and post "never gonna happen".

I think we all understand how tricky it would be to do this deal but the reality of the situation is that Martial apparently wants out. He's unhappy at Utd. He's been openly criticised by Mourinho last season, he lost his number 9 shirt to Zlatan just after releasing his personal brand AM9 or whatever it was. That massively pissed him off by all accounts. The talk is that his agent is actively seeking a move for him right now and he's made this clear to Utd.

Add to the fact that Rashford is now seemingly ahead of him in the pecking order, you can see why we would make a bid or at least make our interest known to Utd. We also know that we have previously been interested in the player and tried to buy him before Utd did their weird deal with Monaco.

If Mourinho is smart then he needs to start playing Rashford as much as possible this season. The kid is hugely talented and Utd have previously taken pride in promoting youth which has very much fallen by the wayside in recent years. To me that suggests that Martial is always going to be coming off the bench with the occasional start in cup games - he's far too good for that shit.

If you throw in the possibility of Utd being interested in Rose and Rose openly admitting that he wants to go back up north then IMO you have all the makings of doing a deal that is mutually beneficial for both clubs.

I make no secret of the fact that I'm a HUGE Martial fan and so I'm naturally going to be positive and hopeful about it. I don't expect it to happen but equally I see far too many possible connections to sit here and say "never gonna happen". Besides that, it's just boring to keep repeating it over and over.
