People need to stop worrying about the forward line if Kane goes. Richi capable of scoring 15 if playing week in week out. He got 1 last season. Son had a very poor season by his standard. Of he scores 5 more than the 10 he got last season. Kulu should be in this new attacking system getting 8-10 goals. Coupled with maddison and potentially GLC chipping in with 15-20 between them it will more than make up for Kane going. Arsenal had a title charge with a CF who hardly scored. Sort the defense out and let in 25-30 left even if we score 10-15 less we will see a massive improvement in results.
Agree another top CB could transform us but we should be ok attacking wise although we will still need a good player in to replace Kane ideally one who can cover ST & RW that + another top top CB on top of VDV and we will have one of the best we’ll rounded squads we’ve had for a long time, not many real weak areas.

This is the beauty of the Kane money and our rebuilding the last few years to finally get to this point to be stronger overall all round.

Remember liverpool when they sold Coutinho. He funded a top keeper and CB and it transformed their side. I think we will be OK going forward. As we will have plenty of goals in the side with

Richi
Son
Lo celso
Kulu
Solomon
Maddison.

Hopefully defenders and fullbacks can chip in. If the above 6 can get 60 between them. We will be fine if the rest can chip in with 10-15 from bentancur, porro, CBs, Udogie, bissouma etc just need to let in 25 less which is worth 15+ points.

He that good mate? I don’t know much about him.

know he's got a huge reputation already. my comment was largely based on the fact that we are in fact 'trying' which would be a massive statement as the price would be greater than anything we would have dropped on tapsoba. The ideal albeit unlikely scenario is that we cooled on tapsoba knowing kane was off but that this opportunity opened up and even though the price was higher, the ceiling was too.

Can't understand why we'd try and do this deal when we seem to be signing vdv. Surely we need an experienced leader.

Laporte supposedly available at £30m too. Would make a lot of sense.

That said I'd never argue against us signing a young player held in such high regard.

I reckon Perisic will chip in quite a few goals and assists as well. He’s certainly past it as a wingback but he showed in the World Cup that he’s still class as a winger. He’s looked very bright in preseason and will be a good option for us.

If money was no object, sure, we’d get him and a wise head too. But I’m worried about our defence if it’s made up of kids and Romero. Young keeper too that’s untested in this league.

I get why people are excited as he’s a wonderkid on football manager. I bet most haven’t seen him play though, and I think if we are spending 70+ million on a defender he should be the finished article.

Risk vs reward. Silva, Gift Orban and VDV might have elite ceilings where as if we buy more experienced players they might be more ready but will never grow much beyond that.

If we are looking long term and accept this as a build year you can justify. Also in regard to CB the performances of our CB’s was so poor last season they wouldn’t have to do much to improve it.

My worry is that defenders, especially young ones are easily ruined. Put them in the wrong back line and they pick up bad habits, or they lose confidence. Look at Sanchez, he wasn’t this bad when we signed him. He’s gone backwards and that’s partly down to us as a club. The fans at whl are pretty unforgiving of defenders who make mistakes. Look at the abuse both Sanchez and Emerson got this season.

Look at Maguire at United. He was a good defender at Leicester, but the situation and atmosphere at United have ruined him.

The atmosphere at the lane is going to be febrile this season. We are at a low ebb. We have just sold one of our greatest ever players. The fans loathe the owners. There will be no patience, and there will be mistakes as the team adapts to the new reality of life under Postecoglou.

For me it’s a recipe for disaster.

Yeah. We’re going to need experience to help guide the club. We should go for Laporte as the other CB. If Dier somehow goes as well as Sanchez, Tanganga & Rodon then we can look at Silva.

Why is it fantasy? Richi has shown he can lead the line at the highest level - international.
His highest goal return in the PL is 13 goals. He scored 1 last year. We’re going to need a 20 goal season from him. Im not close to confident on that. He’s got a lot to prove. It’s more likely to be goals by committee. Hope Sonny has a rebound season.

He has never scored more than 13 goals in any of the 9 professional seasons that he has played at club level. I love Richy but there is so much copium going on atm.

That’s why we need to build with a system where the goals are spread. I don’t rate Jesus much but Arsenal have a system to use their AM’s properly. We have Maddison who is a 20 G/A player, Son, Kulusevski not just Richarlison. There is plenty of goals with a system that uses them properly. Jose and Conte built the whole team around Kane and made him the main man understandably but now we will have to build around a system not a player.
