This should clear everything up, he's been right about almost everything in the past few years.

I mean 1. no, he's a chancer, and 2. you don't have to be an Einstein to figure that is the reason Barca chose Brighton.

Why are people losing their shit over this? No option to buy makes it a pretty crap deal for a player with well known injury issues who's on massive money. I'm a lot more concerned about lack of depth at CB since we have a good chance (allegedly) of landing Brennan Johnson anyway.

And round and round it goes, the cycle continues. You could see what was about to happen when the annual Llyal Thomas and George Bannister know fuck all posts were out.

They may or may not know fuck all but they know how to spot a pattern.

I'm actually happy for Brighton, they are making great choices, they're a breathe of fresh air for football and I'm glad they've been rewarded with securing a player like Fati for the season. I think it makes sense Barca don't want an option there, I think Brighton are making a good choice for this season and worrying about later, later. I think Spurs are in a different situation than Brighton, so I understand why we would want an option.

I don't think missing out on Fati is the concern for us at Spurs, it's not the specific nature of this deal, I don't think Spurs have done anything wrong in relation to this deal. The issue is the cyclical nature of this type of thing happening again and again, so predictable and in my mind unnecessary. I said a few weeks ago, when a problem occurs such as struggling with outgoings every season, it is not the problem reoccurring that is the issue. It is that we don't plan accordingly knowing full well that these problems will always be apart of it. It's like going underwater diving and not taking into consideration that access to oxygen may infringe on what's capable.

I don't so much have a problem not getting him if we didn't think the deal was right, it's more so the fucking about when we're fairly desperate for major ins/outs.

For context:
  • We've been pursuing Fati for ages (backed up by ITK), since at least April (and yes, we didn't have a manager then...)
  • At some stage yesterday the deal was "agreed" and flights/medicals were being arranged
  • Levy then jumped in and pulled the plug as he wasn't happy with the terms of the deal
  • If it got that far, you'd assume Ange was happy with it and you'd also presume that we cooled our interest on other targets
  • We've had since at least April to ask whether they'd include an option or not, that wasn't a surprise
  • It all stinks of Levy playing games and looking for a deal
  • There's two days left and once again, Levy will be caught *snigger* short

If we get Johnson and a CB and this was just a "punt" that didn't work then fair enough. If this was our main attempt to give Ange the attacking players he needs for this season then we've fucked up yet again.
Levy is not a serious person anymore.

There are two main ways to operate as CEO, you’re either all over everything or you hire capable people, delegate responsibility and then make sure that there are consequences for your direct reports not meeting agreed upon targets.

The real fuckwittery here is that Levy tries to do both whenever he feels like it which actually cancels each methodology out. It undermines staff and leads to confusion and indecision which then allows analysis paralysis to take root.

So, if we follow the usual pattern…

Tomorrow, nothing will happen for the first hours, but we’ll get info that we still fully expect at least two in.

About midday-2pm we’ll start hearing how we’re progressing on Johnson, and Forest just need a bit of time to wrap up their deals on replacements.

Later in the afternoon, we’ll get news articles that we’re actually still a way apart on the fee for Johnson and it isn’t as close as thought.

Toward the evening, some news articles will break linking us to a new, as yet unnamed in the window player who would actually be a significant improvement to the squad and will be someone who we wouldn’t feel likely to get.

A bit later it will be eye emojis, and probably some Twitter accounts getting us excited. Meanwhile Johnson will seem a bit on hold.

Friday will roll round, and there will be much excitement around the top quality player we’re now linked to.

About 8pm we’ll either sign Johnson, or, hear definitive news that we arent sure about the asking price, are still far apart and it will become clear that deal is t happening.

Finally, as the clock ticks down, the big name player we get linked to tomorrow will start to fizzle, and eventually about half an hour after the window closes we will get info that it just couldn’t be completed in time, we were close, but there are things we can’t disclose now… but that there is a plan in place for January. We’ll also hear at this point that the main issue with bringing people in was not being able to clear the space in the squad.

This will all cause much buzz and excitement, with the big name being enough to make a large majority forget we still haven’t got decent CB backup.

Finally, it’ll be Levy’s fault.

Ahh to be a Spurs fan eh.
🏆And the Oscar for best written post based on a Levy manuscript, goes to ... "So, if we follow the usual pattern" ! by @Oscar22 !!🏆

As I've said countless times Jorge Mendes is a snake and there's no point trying to do deals where he is heavily involved. I'm not saying it's his fault this time around, as I don't know but it's yet another deal where he has been front and centre of negotiation that has gone tits up.

At a certain point it's like playing with fire expecting not to get burnt.

Is the question (Are we allowed to buy) forbidden before we go deep into negotiations instead of wasting time.

This is why you need an absolute ton of salt though, people on this site do themselves so much damage and wind themselves up so unnecessarily.

There’s like this inbuilt rating system for information, sometimes it’s correct - for instance we should probably pay more attention to the BBC website than we should a Twitter account with 35 followers called ‘Super agent ITK’, fine.

However a lot of the toxic feeling on this site comes from this idea that this journalist isn’t as good as ‘our ITK’, or that journalist isn’t as good as that other journalist, when in reality people all hear things at different rates at different times from people of differing reliability. None (literally none) of the info you read is first hand, none of it comes directly from the source, it’s all a little way removed and all a little way down the chain.

For journalists, they will hear snippets and then apply a huge amount of guesswork in order to make up the required character limit. Essentially though there isn’t one source who provides information who is 100% correct, 100% of the time.

I mean looking at Fati, our ITK have said it was all agreed and 99% there, a while later Romano is saying it was never all agreed and that yes there were long conversations and it was moving closer. Tbh, without being Daniel Levy or one of the people negotiating you’re never going to know how close it all actually was. However people on here will have quite literal blind faith in ITK because more often than not it fits closest to what they would like to be hearing.

It isn’t a knock on our ‘ITK’ posters to say apply salt to everything (journalists too) , people aren’t saying that most of them aren’t sharing info in good faith, its just that the source they have got it from could be misinformed themselves.

However the absolute hoops people jump through on here to say “but the ITK said” is unreal. You’re literally setting yourselves up for dissapointment and anger every time.

If Barcelona fans could read Tottenham forums, they would be having a serious laugh at some of the meltdowns over not signing Ansu Fati. They're keen to push him out for a reason...

I feel bad for ITK.

This is how many of us assume the window is going to end up, even with ITK to the contrary. We just assume that efforts will be made, and they will frequently fall short.

so when people say “wait until the window closes!” This is how we expect the window to close…
Hahahahaha like fuck has he
He is spot on we are THFC why should we bring up, nurture him, pay him more money then majority players and then say goodbye in June. Since when THFC building players to strengthen other clubs. Ppl need to grow up and stop bring up agenda of hating Levy and start think rationally what is best for THFC.

Would genuinely love to know what DL did. Would also like to see what deal Brighton have. I may have it wrong but if Barca didn’t want to lose him then a club offering him game time for no risk of losing him is a better bet from a “seller” perspective.

Anti-DL or not, surely you can all see that?
Thing which baffles me is how did it get to the point of booking a medical if we didn’t like the terms. I just can’t get my head round that. After one phone call surely Barca would have said no beuno when asked about an option and we should have left the negotiations.

What’s also interesting is Brighton are supposedly happy to cover “most” of his contract not all of his contract. I’m surprised that’s enough for Barca. If it’s correct of course.

Idk I find it a bit of an odd move. He won’t be first choice ahead of Mitoma and even if it’s not the full contract the wages will still be big for Brighton. Still pretty good rotation option for them.

Think you've missed the point @THFCSPURS19 was making. He was commenting about wspur saying that George Bannister has been right about almost everything the past few years

I'm going to be deliberately vague about this but we've had ITK previously from someone who literally had their signature on a player's contract and they still got questioned and told it wasn't close.

Indeed. Quite funny to have received that reply in light of my post yesterday though.

Yes that reason is called Felix and it’s not about footballing ability it’s about signing a big name player to replace Dembele. It’s also about Mendes getting two fat pay checks. For what it’s worth Xavi doesn’t want Fati to go and he’s not keen on Felix.

They have long term injury on Julio Enciso. They'll play Fati behind the striker.
Read on Barca forum and they say that Fati has lost his explosiveness and probably isn't a winger any more,
best played in a shadow striker role. Think it's the move to us that wouold have been odd.
