No one wanted Fati until we were told we were getting him, now everyone's upset. it's the same with literally every transfer.
I'm not upset we aren't getting him. I'm upset that yet again the transfer business is as always, after a good start, a mess.

I blame the experts about his knee. The club have clearly seen the comments and backed out. They didn't even know what a meniscus was before.

A theory: we had a deal that had something like an option in it. Brighton said, how about a straight loan. Barca said “oh yeah that’d work great, cheers” and binned us off.

Not beyond the realms is it.

Or we were never actually close to getting him which is an equally plausible theory. The Times said earlier today he had doubts about joining us. Maybe he just didn’t want to come.

A smart club would have dropped £50m on Jonathan David weeks ago & kept negotiating for an Orban or someone. Tottenham Hotspur are not a smart football club. It is a finished club.
Club that drops 50m on Jonathan David isn't smart club. He's not that good and not worth it.

Then we shouldn’t be leaving things this late in the window.
What happens if we don’t have a choice. Why does everyone think it’s always just us that controls the will of all three parties in a player transfer.

We are one of three parties.

WLB's last post does read like Levy said no at the last minute after a whole day of negotiations, essentially setting fire to a lot of people's good work.
I mean if the deal was a loan with no option, that's fair to me.

Brighton can offer Europa League football this season. We can't. We can't even offer cup football now till January.

If it was a straight loan then Brighton would probably be more attractive to Fati as he gets to play in Europe.

Must admit, it's not looking great and the usual signs are creeping in as we approach the last 48 hours of the window. Starting to feel like it's going to be a scramble and the chance we do nothing in terms of incomings is a real possibility imo. A deal like this collapsing kind of ramps up the pressure. With no firm movement in terms of outgoings, it's all starting to look too late and messy unfortunately.

Yeah its starting to feel pretty ropey. The club have wasted a couple of days trying to sign someone only to be hijacked by Brighton & Hove Albion in a fraction of the time.

CB is the most fragile situation and its all gone quiet there

We've sold Kane and his replacement in Richarlison is really struggling.

We're lucky Ange has had a positive start and got a tune out of some recent signings.

Once again feels like we'll be going into a season a couple of players/positions short again.

Missing out on a player I can live with. But not the last minute late late window shitshow that we are once again involved in.

True. Transfers are hard, but our insistence on leaving so much business until the end of the window leaves us short every year. Between the sales that haven’t happened and the holes in the squad we are not able to back our managers.
