Harry Redknapp insists Gareth Bale is happy at Tottenham despite renewed claims Barcelona will launch a bid to sign the Wales star this summer.
Bale is renowned as one of the hottest young properties in world football after starring for Tottenham over the last two seasons.
He grabbed the world's attention when he ran Inter Milan ragged on two occasions last season and his reputation has improved this term thanks to a number of impressive displays.
Barcelona have watched the 22-year-old on a number of occasions and this week Barca full-back Dani Alves said Bale would be a welcome addition to the ranks of the all-conquering European champions.
Redknapp insists there has been no approach for Bale yet though, and claims the wide man is content at White Hart Lane.
Redknapp told a press conference: "No one has been in touch with us.
"He is happy here with us at the moment. He is a fantastic player.
"He will be linked with every club because he is such a great player."
Barcelona's players were heavily criticised last year for talking publicly about their desire to see then Arsenal captain Cesc Fabregas return to the Nou Camp - a tactic many saw as tapping up.
When asked whether he thought Alves' comments constituted tapping up, Redknapp replied: "I haven't seen what he said.
"I would like Lionel Messi. I will have a chat with the chairman about Lionel. I will see if he fancies coming to Tottenham!"
Barcelona suffered a shock 1-0 defeat to Chelsea on Wednesday night in their Champions League semi-final first leg clash at Stamford Bridge.
Should Chelsea win the Champions League, Spurs will be denied a place in the competition if they finish fourth in the Premier League, but Redknapp claims he still wants the Blues to go through following Tuesday's second leg in Spain.
He added: "I'll be rooting for Chelsea. I haven't even thought about [missing out on the Champions League if Chelsea win the whole thing].
"If Chelsea stay in it, they've got a Champions League Final to prepare for as well and that'll mean they've got a lot on their plate and I want to see an English team win it anyway."

If anyone is in doubt of whether Harry will actually stay next year then i'm sure those last few paragraph's will alleviate that.
In any case, it's a very strange comment to make knowing full well that the Champions League is and always has been the ultimate aim of this season.

its confirmation of what we already know - he wont be around for the CL next year so what does he care. Another Stupid comment to add to the list. He will last a year at the most with England before he says something stupid - mark my words!

Really do wish Harry would just keep his mouth shut. That's just a downright stupid thing for a Spurs manager to say considering our current position.

5 games to go, then the stop-gap can be replaced.

He lasted longer than I thought and did better than I thought he could.

I wish him well, but if we retain him beyond this season, we (THFC) will suffer for it.

He's probably just saying that to keep his mates Lamps and JT happy when he's England manager. He's clearly not got Tottenham's long term interests at heart anyway, but then I think we knew that already.

Oh come on, what does it matter? He always says things that the media want to hear and if anyone really thinks that Harry would prefer Chelsea to win and us not make the champions league, they are surely completely nuts. Whether you believe he loves Tottenham or not, he still has a reputation to uphold, and a competitive nature to boot; of course he wants us in the Champions League next year.

It's amazing just how stupid that man can be.
I said a few months back that he is the Inspector Clouseau of football management, nothing he has said or done since has convinced me otherwise.

I've got to admit, Harry's agenda in saying all the right things with the F.A. looking on is starting to grate. He's got to say he's going to be supporting Chelsea, being the English club, but the trouble is, I reckon Harry actually feels that way.

I've not criticised much he's done on the field, as he's not done too badly at all there up until recently, but he really is a bit of a knob sometimes with the things he spouts off of it. You can almost hear him now saying 'Well, Modric is still interested in the wages at Chelsea, who wouldn't be? But he also wants to make sure they're in the Champion's League again, so we'll both be watching it tonight cheering Chelsea on, it'll be a triffic move for the lad if he's joining the European Champions. Yeah, it was shame about Spurs, but we wish Chelsea all the best in taking our place'.

I don't like to start sounding like a whiny little girl, but come on Harry, you don't make it easy for us.

He couldn't care less if we finished 4th then Chelsea won it. His reputation won't be damaged as he will just say he managed to get us to 4th, which is usually good enough for champs league etc. Unlucky that Chelsea won it etc

To him, Tottenham was only ever a job. He doesn't have much love for the club in my opinion. It's not a prerequisite that a manager should love the club he manages though. He has done a good job overall since being in charge but as far as I'm concerned he is now our manager in name only.

I look forward to him leaving and removing the cloud that is lingering over the club.

As I said elsewhere, Harry would probably enjoy us struggling after he leaves. It would make the job he has done at spurs look even better.

When Tottenham visited Fulham at Craven Cottage, the SKY interviewer tried to engage Martin Jol with questions about Tottenham.

Martin Jol said straight away, 'But, I am here to talk about Fulham...'

To further badgering, he politely answered the question but insisted he wanted to talk about Fulham.

I cannot imagine Fergie or Wenger answering a question like this and giving such an answer.

Redknapp should have said something like this:

'We cannot do anything about Chelsea's involvement in the Champion's League, but we here at Tottenham are preparing for our next game and 4 games to follow. We need to win all five games to ensure we finish as high as is mathematically possible and to qualify for the Champion's League. If you really must ask me, I'd rather not see Chelsea win the competition if it means that Tottenham do not qualify. I am only interested in Tottenham. It is our job to finish 3rd, if we can't, then 4th. We need to repay the fans after the semi-final defeat.'

Failing that, a Kenny Dalglish style 'rant and rave' before walking out may suffice!

Last season I said I was sick to death of Harry and his mouth and got shot down for it. Now it's seems virtually everyone has caught up. I will always think of him in high regard for what he has achieved at spurs but I just want him gone now. Absolutely sick to death of reading articles, I can't imagine any other manager at a top four club coming out with such ridiculous comments. They all would have more respect for the club and it's fans, and people wonder why we can be so fickle sometimes!!
