I understand why we have a no-loan policy but I think in this instance a stopgap solution makes sense. We are short on cover for Eriksen and Dembele as things stand, and it seems that Barkley was earmarked to cover for those positions but his injury situation/Everton's intransigence has prevented the deal from happening.

Bringing in a player on loan would give us time to see how Onomah performs out on loan, whether Lamela will ever get back to full fitness, and possibly bring in Barkley on a reduced fee in January once he is fit to play. If Onomah proves himself to Poch and Lamela recovers fully then in a year we may not even need another player beyond what we already have on our books.

Thought the only thing Gomes and Barkley had in common is that they are listed as midfielders?

Sounds like we are trying to force Everton's hand on Barkley to me.

Sky usually do a team at about this time not going for a player then lone behold the deal is back on in the evening just in time to keep the viewers keen until deadline day.

If we had this guy in our team alongside dembele or wanyama i would be very happy. His passing and control is sublime , he isn't fast at all but his vision is superb and could pick out the left and right backs with ease.

As I said, pre Barca Gomes, is a great signing. Ask any Barca fan about Gomes last season, maybe a lack of confidence in an off colour Barca side, but he was average.

He reminds me a bit of Dembele by how strong he is on the ball. He has solid close control, powerful dribbling and doesnt necessarily play through balls or pick out creative passes regularly.
