Just clocked it in my local freeby rag..

Dave Mackay is doing one of them nights at Cheshunt Football Club on Friday April 11th don't know how much etc but ticket info etc as stated by the paper East Herts Herald
is available by phoning Neville on 07825 527954.

Can't believe the old campaigner is 77 but then again he left THFC in 1968 - 40 years ago.

I half thought he was dead...expected to read about an advert for a seance 'Only fools & horses' style.

Can we get him to knock a few of our player's heads into shape?

The picture of him squaring up to Billy Bremner should be posted all over the club - think it needs to be sent to the coaching staff.

I fell over the EHH when I walked through the door tonight. Cursed my arse off but took it back when I read the article.

I'm definitely going to go. Phone call in the morning methinks.

I got his autograph and told him I knew he'd be great in summer '59 when Spurs played a charity cricket game up at Cockfosters. I knew he'd be great because he was featured in my latest card set from Lion or Tiger or something.

Times haven't really changed, have they? Substitute FM for card sets from comics and there you go!

Must be a great feeling meeting such a legend like Dave Mackay. For the ignorant amongst us (me) , why did we ever sell him? wouldn't a better plan have been to let him finish his career here and go into management rather then go onto Derby County? From what I have understood he was a key influence on the success of Derby in the 70's................clutching at straws here but it may have gone some way into not having the goon Terry Neill as manager. A Blanchflower-Mackay double act would have been a better transition from the departure of Bill Nic in my opinion.......

Bill recommended Danny to the board as his successor, but Danny had upset too many board members. He didn't suffer fools gladly.

Spurs Club Director: "The trouble with you is that you think you know all the answers."

Blanchflower: "Ah, God love you, you don't even know the questions!"

Dave and Bobby must do this every year, as I came down and took my dad two years ago. Excellent evening, although Dave did say he was a Hearts man through and through and playing for Spurs was just another part of his career. Got some excellent photo's though and autographed books. Well worth the trip and it was a surprise for my dad, who didn't know about it until we got to Harlow Town FC.

I've posted this elsewhere - knew Dave well back in the early 60s, visiting him at St Ann's Hospital after both leg breaks, etc, etc.

We were chatting one summer's day at the Lane and he was at a loose end because Isabel, his wife, was away in Scotland and he asked me if I'd like to go to a nightclub with him that evening. Naturally, I jumped at the chance and had a great night out. I was 17 and it was the first nightclub I'd ever been to - the Carlton Club in Arnos Grove. Several other footballers were there. All quite innocent and great fun and I positively purred at all the attention I got from everyone. A nice memory, I even remember the dress I wore - a tight-fitting, low necked turquoise crocheted number with a silk underlining!

Many years later, when we moved to Whetstone, I was amazed to see that the Carlton Club was still there, just down the road - although it has since changed hands and names a few times.
