Stupid not to start Dele in his best postion, but i will bet that Fat Sam will be licking Rooney's balls over where he wants to play.

Rooney: over paid and over rated: drop him and renew the side with a captain who leads by example!

Ok unpopular comment coming up.

At this stage Rooney is a better player than Alli in a reasonably tough away game. Alli has not played that well so far whereas Rooney has seemed to be more involved and created and scored goals. Rooney should start in the attacking midfield position (assuming that is where Big Sam wants to play him).

Alli will benefit, in my opinion, with being droped a few times both for us and England.

Spine of Dier, Alli and Kane for both Spurs and England is effective. They know each other and it is better than Rooney being put into a position while he is fading as a force. Allardyce needs to think about building an effective team and not just trying to fit in the "stars".

Regardless of how well he is or isn't playing making Rooney captain is a mistake as it makes him undroppable.

I know England aren't overflowing with leaders and experience but that decision pongs of the FA needing to keep sponsors happy.

Alli is making all the right noises, the question is will he learn from his mistakes? I certainly hope so and think Poch will stear him right.
