Thing is it's easy to say "we'll regret it when he's worth 100m in 5 years" but he'll only be worth that much if he goes to a club where he gets regular game-time and can develop.

If we think he can contribute to the first team and there's a path for him to become a regular starter then great, sign him up. If not then both him, and us, would be wise to look elsewhere.

If he signs then isn't getting in the team it could easily be another Spence situation where a talented, highly rated youngster gets wasted on our bench or farmed out on loan. I wouldn't be at all surprised if we sold Spence within the next year or so and then in 3-4 years time he's worth 60-70m+ after going to a team where he actually plays and develops into a top class full-back.

Wouldn't mind betting that if Alfie Devine was playing at Bristol City there'd be similar interest to Scott, and people would be clamouring for us to sign him. I don't think there's much difference between to 2 tbh and Alfie hasn't had many opportunities here.

If we are planning for the future we should be all over this to make it happen. He Ticks so many boxes.

The problem is that you bring him in and you are blocking a path for one of your own youngsters - its all very well buying and he is expensive for what he has done - but you can't then moan about there being no path for the academy players it sends the wrong message

Unfortunately, the timing is just not right for a transfer like this when we need a complete rebuild with multiple position needs. We can’t spend a chunk of our transfer kitty on a prospect that is most likely still a couple years away from being a top-half premier league player. Hopefully we will rebuild and have a strong core of players where we will have the money to spend on young talents like this down the road.

Agree but by all accounts he is much better than what we have in the academy in that position. He does not play in Devines position. On the basis that we need two for every position he’s a must. Get him in either loan him out straight away to a championship club or my choice of keep him in the squad until January and loan if needed.

Would be disappointing if he goes to West Ham as he won't be easy to transfer to Tottenham later on.

West Ham will price us out or refuse to sell to us. At least Bournemouth and Wolves would set a fairer price and easier to pry away

It’s going to happen I reckon. They’ll have loads of cash and you can see how it would appeal to him

And this notion that he’s comparable with Devine - sorry, not even close

Depends, if he is better than the academy players then that wouldn’t apply. The tricky thing I guess is how good will he be when he steps up a level (a big level).

I guess that’s where it gets difficult valuing a player like him. I like what I have heard about him though.

Isn't Devine that 8/10 hybrid?
I've seen Scott play a few times and admittedly not as much as many have seen him, but, I've actually been more impressed in Devine than Scott when they have played together. He always seems to have the uncanny knack of finding space
I agree with this. I’ve seen a lot of people thrust Scott ahead of Devine in the pecking order if they were teammates here but I’m not sure it would be the case, slightly different players in style with Scott being an 8 with ability to get forward and Devine a 10 the ability to come deeper and link things and put a foot in but Devine is absolute quality in the same way Scott is. He’s got top ability to finish, play killer passes, always finds space and makes great runs off the ball which Scott hasn’t shown yet and may never do. Just my opinion and I can see why people really rate Scott but if I had to pick one to put my money on to definitely make it here it would be Devine. He lacks no attribute at all to make it at our level in my opinion, it’s just a matter of time

I don't disagree because I don't know enough about either player, but Scott has proved he can hack it, and thrive, in the man's game, at a very decent level. Whereas I've seen a lot of brilliant prospects who've wilted when stepping up. I'm not saying that's Devine, but I've seen it.

I want Scott here, as I think he has "it", but if I was him I'd definitely go to a lesser prem side and get game time.

We don’t need a complete rebuild. We’ve already addressed a couple of key positions for not much outlay. With the players likely to exit it really shouldn’t be that difficult to fund 2 CBs and a young option like Scott.

Yeah I get what you’re saying, there no guarantee’s with anyone but I feel Devine has all that it takes technically and has a high football IQ with how he finds space, he always has excess time on the ball and that’s the greatest mark of a top attacking player. He’s got the ability to really influence games if he matures physically, that’s the only and biggest question mark with him in my opinion. I think this will be the season those questions begin to gain answers. He’s still only 18 turning 19 this season but he’s going to be playing more men’s football this season, be it staying here as Maddison’s back up or going out on loan and I’m looking forward to seeing how he gets on. I’d be delighted if he ended up on loan at Ipswich so I could watch him regularly next season

'Wolves to make £20m bid for Bristol City midfielder Scott'

Wolves are submitting a £20m-plus bid for Bristol City midfielder Alex Scott, according to the Daily Telegraph.

The 19-year-old is reportedly a prime target for Wolves boss Julen Lopetegui this summer and Wolves are ready to make a second improved offer nearing to the Championship club’s £25m valuation.

It is claimed Wolves had an opening £18m offer knocked back earlier this month but a new bid is imminent.

Scott, who was named the Championship’s Young Player of the Season, is also a target for Bournemouth after the Cherries had a £15m offer plus add-ons rejected by Bristol City on Wednesday.

Closest thing I’ve seen to a Grealish regen. People also thought Grealish could be an 8 with his ball carrying; think he’ll be a premier league 10 / winger

Seems obvious that we won’t be moving for him this window, if it blocks Alfie Devines chances then I’m fine with us not signing Scott. Only way it makes sense is if PEH, Lo Celso & Tanguy left and it it unlikely all 3 go.
