Don’t get me wrong, forwards are always exciting, but it would be odd to splash the cash on another top winger when we have son/Kulu/Richi, unless it looked like someone would pay up for Kane. Would much rather have Gil or even Porro cover that spot and get a top CB and someone like Scott in for midfield depth

All I can say. Let us not waste this golden egg opportunity
Hopefully not but depends how far our budget stretches as we have other positions of priority also.

But Scott does seem like another Grealish/Maddison type talent in the championship who’s a bit of a no brainer really.

Some players just ‘have it’ and he seems to be one of those.

I feel like this is the one kid we should put up the money for. We have missed plenty of these wonder kids from the EFL from previous years, only to regret not going for them sooner. This kid really is the real deal and genuinely believe he can break into our team, bit like how Dele did back then.

The fact he's a spurs fan makes a huge difference if we did go for him, as I'm sure he would say yes to us right away.

For every James Maddison there's a Will Hughes, it's never a guarantee coming from the Championship.

If I was Scott I'd go somewhere I'd be guaranteed to play though. And since he's a Spurs supporter, maybe It'll be easier to buy him after a few successful seasons.
Buy him and loan him to Bournemouth- job done.

We could start by giving Lloris, Perisic and Dier free transfers, will save 20m.
And how would that work exactly? No guarantee their next contract pays the same amount so we’d have to buy out their deal or agree to pay the difference to have them walk. Would you leave your job tomorrow for nothing to make less money?

I thought Lloris's contract is up and he's no longer a Spurs player anyway.
As for the other two I believe they both are into their last year so yes there is a cost but not the highest, although in that case why bother.

Lloris has a year left on his contract, signed a 2 year extension in 2022.

As does Dier and Perisic.

Hypothetically yes we could just accept nothing in transfer fee, but why would you when all 3 could get a few million for easily.

Even £3m each would be £9m, not exactly something you just throw away.

If you're talking about releasing them from their contract then we'd have to pay out their final year, which would cost around £20m ironically.

So, we would either let them all go on free transfers, assuming they'd all take a wage cut and still lose out as they could easily fetch atleast £9m between them, or buy out their contracts and spend £20m to do so. Not sure about the logic financially on either of those tbh.

We should ask Pleaty - he knows his way round lower leagues and as to whether players can make it.

Did make me smile when you say lower leagues in reference to the Championship. Presuming you don’t watch a lot of step 3 football. 😂

I honestly thought Hugo was out of contract.

You’re aware that signing on bonuses exist, right? And that by not charging the buying club a fee that we could be helping them pay such bonuses to compensate for the drop in weekly wages? And that might encourage more interest in the players from clubs and more interest in moving from the players?

Additionally, I read that we’ve told Hugo he can go where he wants on a free as a thank you for his service. Yes, we’re paying him to go, as another type of bonus.

You make it sound so black and white, when like everything, its shades of grey.

with Scott much like Edwards at Peterborough they have both been around the England Youth setup for a couple of years so they are not exactly below the radar yet the interest in them has been pretty mild - none of the big boys are showing any real interest if you believe what you read - he seems a bit of a ball carrier in central midfield and there aren't an awful lot of them around and he would get less room if he moves up - then you have to decide if you do bring him in which player or players are you blocking the obvious one is Devine who looks very promising

Forgive me if I'm being an idiot as I have barely seen much of Scott, but I keep seeing people compare him to grealish but he seems more of a centre midfielder?

The very few highlights I've seen of him seem to show him doing most of his stuff from quite deep and he doesn't really get near the goal that much. Is it more that his style of play and movement matches grealish and not necessarily his position and output?
