Adama Traore

The question is: do you want us to sign Adama Traore? As many as are of that opinion say

He’d already be in a Spurs shirt but for Baldilocks.

We might still have Nuno though, so there is that…

Note: How are people disagreeing with the fact that Levy binned this transfer in August because we had enough attackers?

I get where you're coming from and I'd certainly give Paratici and Conte the benefit of the doubt if we brought in Traore as a 'value' deal to temporarily patch a hole in the squad.

My problem with the deal is, he's a bit of a square peg in a round hole, and we've made that mistake so many times already with players like Sessegnon, Royal, Lo Celso etc.

I'd much rather pay a bit more money and bring in someone who is an obvious fit for the position long term, rather than take a cheap(ish) punt on a player who in my opinion will end up being yet another bench warmer/impact sub before too long. We can't keep wasting money on players that don't really suit our system and/or won't improve the first 11.

I think square pegs in round holes is something that Conte looks to explore in those wing backs positions anyway so even if it's not Traore, it may simply be someone else similar who is deemed as the right player to play there.

If reports of him not wanting to play there are true though then I think it makes missing out on him a lot easier to take, for me personally anyway. But like that tweet, it's baffling that it would get to this stage if that were the case. With Spurs nothing would surprise me though!

Surely asking Traore to play wing back is a bit like asking Ginola to play wing back, bit of a non-starter. Anyway Las Ramblas or High Rd N.17 where would you go.

was just going to post this, if this is the real reason. it just goes to show how shocking our due diligence is.
We've literally had the opposite words on the subject, so it's choose what you want to believe time I suppose. The "shocking due diligence" line that gets trotted about by lots of people who don't know what was said one way or another is purely based on narrative: usually that we're "tight" with money and any money we do spend is on "poorly researched" players.

Sorry, but I just don't think that can be true. If you say it to yourself, how could it actually be accurate.

I can't believe for a second we let this get as far as it did before even confirming that he wanted to play RWB. That doesn't add up.

What a deal for Wolves that would be if true. If they get €35mil for him in the summer with 12 months left on his deal when they don’t play him, then fair fucks.

£29m when Wolves only wnated £25m and it appeared willing to accept around £20m. something doesnt add up.

Shame he's not coming I was really interested to see what Conte could do with him.

Got a feeling this news is going to have a big impact on this month for us. As we've been told it's a two window process. Meaning in the summer we need a RWB, CB, CM & Striker.

That's too big a job imo. We surely have to address one position this window. Whether that means Diaz as a forward gets pushed through or we drop money on another area is anyone's guess. But this is not good news in the bigger context of shaping our squad.

Abaoloutely HUGE few days for the club.

Probably paying no wages (covered by Wolves) then compensating with a larger fee in the summer.

A move to Barca would be huge for him to force his way into the Spain squad ahead of the world cup (similar to Vlahovic going to Juve)

Take off our Spurs tinted glasses and it's easy to see why he'd be keen to move to Barca as an attacking threat rather than Spurs as a wing back.

This is why we always say take any transfer news with a pinch of salt as anything can happen up until pen has been put to paper (esp where Mendes is involved).

If we don’t get him, but do get other high calibre players instead then I’m okay with it.
However, if we end up with what (again) appears to be option D/E/F, then I don’t know if we can trust Levy to take the club forward properly.

See, I really wanted Traore. I think at some point he is going to click and be an absolute menace, and playing somewhere other than Wolves is one of the keys to that (basically a more adventurous style as his last two clubs have been Boro (under Pulis) and Wolves)... however, he just never appeared suited to being a wing back so not surprised he has cooled on that idea if he knows he can go to Barca. Hell, i'd have him ahead of Moura in our front 3 but just couldn't picture him chugging up and down the right hand side as a wing back

I could see his strengths and how they would have helped us but wasnt hell bent on us getting him but now he is going elsewhere - im angry cos i now want him...

Look - clearly if Barca went in for him we werent going to have a sniff - no blame on Spurs.

the 25M your quoting was euros which equates to the £20M ... 35M euros equates to the £29M... but agree something seems not so koshers .... its clear that Wolves benefits but ALSO so does Mendes with a bigger cut

Why does it feel like Barcelona have signed more players since it was first announced they weren't able to sign players than they did when they were capable of signing players?

Also, a loan with a 35m option is silly by Wolves. Barca won't pay up that amount. They'll simply negotiate it down in the summer if still keen. Sounds great as a headline but no way it stick as the final deal. Mendes simply playing both sides.

So Paratici spent all window trying to sign a player who didn’t want to play at RWB, in order to replace the RB who can’t play at RWB who he bought in the summer. Only to lose out on him to the skint club he bought said RB from.

Peak.

It’s the price to not give Wolves any money up front surely. Barça can’t pay just now, but once Dembele’s wages are off in the summer and they clear some other high earners on, they can spend big again.

An extra £10mil nearly is worth the wait for Wolves
