You've reminded me of something, and I'm sorry to everyone for going down memory lane a bit.

I've noticed he doesn't do that (much). I've noticed that he actually reminds me of a young me.

I'm not comparing myself with him. When 16 year old me was given my first trial (only for Yeovil Town) the manager was a guy called Clive Whitehead, apparently a half decent player back in the day, never heard of him though.

Anyway I was a striker, rapid. While I was on my trial, Clive decided he wanted to take a look at me as a winger. After about 3 or 4 runs down the line, he asked me why I'd stopped crossing the ball. When I explained to him that there was nobody to cross it to, he looked me in the eye & said , "Your job is to get the ball into the danger area, the strikers job is to be in the danger area. Do your job"..

Those words stuck with me, and for all the ridicule Traore gets for his supposed lack of end product, he does exactly what Clive instructed me to do all those years ago.

He gets to the goal line & more often than not, he hangs a cross into the middle of the box. There's just nobody there to finish it off (this was different when Jimenez was pre head injury).

He does his job, and surely we have better players to take advantage of what he brings to the party?

Sorry for the reminiscing & long post.

I wrote Ruel Fox a letter when I was little (maybe 10?) praising him for doing all the running down the wing and crossing the ball in, but despairing the fact that we had no decent strikers to get on the end of it. I was a little naive, but in no way that differs to old Clive there.

Kane, absolutely. But Dier? He's not had his fair share, has he?

I admit to having a broken memory, but I can't remember numerous free-kicks from him?

The thing is, unlike Kane, Dier has actually proven he's capable from a set-piece and, as things stand in our present squad, he's still the only person I'd have any faith in putting one in the back of the net.

It's a bit like when we had Eriksen. He went bloody ages without actually scoring a free-kick (saying nothing about corners) but he was still the one we'd all want taking them, just in case.

Kane doesn't offer a just in case, Dier does. IF we get Traore (hope we do) I struggle to see many alternatives outside of Dier when it comes to taking any set-pieces Traore may win.
Sorry but Dier hasn't done anything from set pieces either. Has he even scored one for us? Isn't what you're saying the case for Dier? He scored one for England and now you're saying he should be taking them for us. Just in case he does what he did in 2016.

Even if he is only used as a super sub for one of our 10s/WFs in a cameo role he will improve us.

I'm just saying he's shown he "can" do it. Unlike Kane who's only ever scored via 1 deflected effort (if memory serves me correctly).

Sorry, wasn't looking to create disagreement.

No worries, I think Kane has as many (or few) as Dier so we don't have great options to be fair. Although it's not easy to sign a player who fits what you're looking for and is good at free kicks either. I would give someone else a run at them. Maybe Moura who can strike well from distance. If Kane could start scoring them though he would become the complete forward.

Anyone else have visions of him making the Arsenal back line run for their lives whilst we give them the beating they deserve!

If only there was Wikipedia back in the stone ages ??

Computers were only just introduced to schools down here in Cornwall in 1989 & I didn't follow football/sport, I was just good at them. Only did them because my dad wanted me to stop fighting, otherwise I was perfectly happy getting up to no good.
