Why so? Levy is not so tight as to think the cost of a statue is unnecessary expenditure?
I suspect it will be a perfect gesture linking past glories with future success a focal point outside the stadium itself and a genuinely popular idea and Levy isn't likely to miss that point. Plus I think as a Spurs fan he'll want to do it.

Assuming that plans for the area immediately around the stadium haven't changed, then a new statue of Billy Nick is already pencilled in to occupy the site where the gates to the West stand now are.

It will be a recreation of this famous pose (the gates will remain where they are):

We played Bolton at home that day.

The club showed a montage of his life at Spurs on the big screens, with Annie Lennox singing "Into the West" as the soundtrack. So many people who never met the man so choked up.

And then the game. Bolton scored early and then put on a show of cynicism, gamesmanship and time wasting (Nicky Hunt being the worst culprit) that would have appalled the great man had he been there to see it. Above all, his philosophy was that footballers were there to entertain the fans.

You can just about see the statue between the gates in this render - between Rudolfs and the Red House. I was wrong about the position, though. It looks as though the gates will be moved forward, almost on to the High Road:

Perfect spot for it as well to be fair to them, plenty of foot traffic and a good permanent reminder of the old WHL once its gone.

Sadly when Bill died I was having a bit of a lull in my Spurs supporting career and I don't remember the event. I had just come back from university and had started a new job and Spurs were not on my list of priorities. I regret that now as it was only a year later that I started going to games again and if it happened today i'd probably take a day off work.

RIP Bill.

I was singing in a pub in Chelmsford on the day he died, I finished with My Way and explained the song was for Bill, there were big men crying that night, including me.
