Bayern never out of 2nd gear. Utd as expected. Done us no favours for 5th CL place. Badly need Newcastle to get through tonight and put Milan completely out. Italy are now 2nd behind the Germans. We are third .
really going to need ten hag to still be in charge when we play them at their place with half our squad at tin pot international tournaments.

Hang on, are you saying that at the moment Italy gets an extra place in the CL next season and we are back down to 4 slots?

As it stands, yes. And the fact that it looks like AC Milan are about to get Europa League Knockouts at Newcastle's expense very doesn't help.

All 6 of Italy’s CL and EL teams have qualified. If Newcastle had been smart and kept things tight at 1-1 they would have made EL instead of leaving themselves open by chasing an unlikely winner

Could get a few extra points tonight in Europa and conference. Need West Ham and Brighton to win their groups for extra pts.
Draw for CL will be interesting . All 3 Italian clubs are runners up so will play group winners. Some difficult draws might bomb them all out. Lazio are no great shakes but Napoli and Inter will take some beating.

It was as if they had forgotten that Milan had to win the game as well. Stitched up by a more experienced coach. Bit like Poch when we got beat by Juve

Two more crap results from Villa and Liverpool. I think it's going to have to be Top 4. On the bright side, I'm optimistic we can achieve that

They put out reserve/youth sides and I’m guessing both are odds favourites to win their respective competitions?

Putting out weak teams is part of the issue. And they probably are favourites, but there's still stuff competition, and even English sides winning two of the tournaments might not be enough at this point especially if German and Italian sides go far. The difference between winners and runners-up is only two points, or therefore 0.25 of a league coefficient point, it's much more about consistently strong results throughout (including the group stage) and multiple teams progressing deep into the tournaments.

I always think the Xmas schedule is really tough and full.

Yet I just looked at it for the first time and after tomorrow we have 8 days between games, then 5 days, then 3 days.
Then FA Cup 4 days later.

That isn't at all that bad and very manageable.

Hopefulyl we can aim for a good points total from that lot and be either in the top 4 or touching distance.

Great stuff from Brighton and that West Ham lot. Both won and both group winners. Villa won their group
Lot of Bonus pts. Just short of Italy now.
We have 6 group winners going through so should get quite a few through The next round.
From kassiesa.net. Standings as follows
1. Italy 14.00. Average per team
2. Germany. 13.643
3. England. 13.625

If we can finish at least 5th we will get champ lge. I confidently predict.

They were already through their groups so these were dead rubbers. They were just resting players in a less meaningful game most likely. Can't see Klopp or Emery doing that as the competitions roll on.

Not having European games or league cups has made things a bit easier.

Despite all the hand wringing about the suspensions and injuries, it’s not too bad.
We have our usual team apart from Bissouma , who hasn’t been great since his Luton sending off. We can survive the loss of Udogie for one game. Definitely do not need a Romero booking in next two games, that would be another ban.
We have Everton, Brighton and Bournemouth before Sonny goes. Richy can cover his position with Deki and Johnson after that. We have 2 lge games in Jan which are Man U away and Brentford at home. Takes us into Feb when a few will prob be back.
Burnley cup game which we should win plus the next round. Hoping for an easy home game.
In Feb we won’t be far off full strength.
All set up for a blast at the last 15 games.

Isn't this how spots are divided by leagues? Not by single season coefficients? And If they are, 5th spot is pretty much guaranteed

Edit: Apparently just by this season, wonder why the difference?

It is by single season coefficient for the extra spot.

Looking at how bad league leaders Liverpool are today, we shouldn't be worrying about the extra Champions League spot...let's just win the league
