For me, when you’re signing depth they either need to be:
  1. Better or markedly different than the first choice (Werner)
  2. High potential younger player (Dragusin)
  3. Experienced player at the end of their career (Perisic)
I don’t really see Gallagher as any of the three, so it doesn’t make sense to me unless we can get really good value. Maybe Ange sees him as a “enough” of all three?

4 Depth option so that when the first choice (Sarr) gets injured, needs rest, is suspended or we need tactical adjustment the level remains the same and doesn’t drop like when we put in Hojbjerg or Skipp.

This option is an option elite teams use like Man City, Real etc to build squads capable of fighting for multiple trophies.

We have been linked by ITK to Fofana of Monaco who is a very exciting player, very technical and Phillips on loan plus we have been linked via press to Hackney, Vermeeren and Wharton. There are probably more names on our list but those are the ones being linked currently.
Edited my original post to add Phillips on loan as he was the other name linked by ITK. Complete forgot about that one.

It’s a good point, I think I’m in the minority here but I don’t think he’s enough of an improvement on Hoj to account for that (considering we can already only start 2 of Bentancur/Sarr/Bissouma).

If the club disagree though, then you have to respect the ambition and to be honest you’ve swayed me a bit!

I'd take Fofana ahead of Gallagher every day of the week. I know they play different positions etc but Fofana could be a monster.
I really like the look of him. I know he’s played DM mostly this season but he can also play as a b2b 8 as he can dribble. The obvious big caveat with him is that he isn’t HG. Ether way he deserves a move to a bigger club.

Yeah I think the tough thing for me is that they're different positions, all what Ange wants I guess!

I watched a lot of Fofana in his salzburg games in UCL and thought he could be the next kante. Yes he's technical but always thought he's a really good option for CDM. He literally was everywhere. Whereas I would say Gallagher fits the sarr mould more.

Would be excited for either tbh!

Well according to this bit of nonsense on the internet football gossip, N'dombele :) :) :) :) :) :) ,

Spurs are considering recalling French midfielder Tanguy Ndombele, 27, from his loan from Galatasaray because of the uncertainty around Gallagher. (Football Transfers)
If Ndombele tried to cover the ground Sarr does he will die in 5 mins

Totally agree with this. We have Bentancur, Bissouma, Sarr, and Skipp. I don’t think Gallagher would be an improvement over 3 of them. He also blocks the path of Devine and Donley.

obviously if we get him, I’ll be cheering his name but I’m not quite sure I see what Ange and the Scouts clearly do

I’d love T to come back, rehab himself and play out of his skin for rest of the season. We win the league and here’s there holding the trophy. It’s Hollywood.

The hipsters will love it to as he’s 6 and a 8 😂

I just watch him and think that if it were my money it could probably be better spent on another talent that has a little bit more in their locker. He’s a fine player, but for that price, it feels harder and harder to justify. In the end, I want nothing more than for Ange to be happy and feel fully supported, so if he sees something in Gallagher and the recruitment team doesn’t outright disagree, then by all means, go for it.

This sounds perfectly reasonable but for that to be worth it one of Sarr or Gallagher would have to be excellent options in more than one position. None of them are creative enough to play in the Maddison role and DM position doesn't suit them either.

Dragusin comes in to challenge for both CB positions, Werner comes in to challenge for three forward positions. While it would be great to have 22 players of similiar high standards it is not realistic.

This is a hard one. Gallagher has a punchable face, but i would take half a Gallager before any Kalvin "Back/sidewaypass" Philips!
Didn’t see much of him at Leeds but they loved him (Yorkshire Pirlo). Wouldn’t put much credence on him England performances under Southgate.

We should not help Chelsea with FFP. We need to look elsewhere.

Chelsea will get around FFP one way or another, whether it’s selling academy players for pure profit or new sponsorship deals.

If he’s available & willing to come for 35/40 Million we should get him. Ange likes him, he’s homegrown & has premier league experience. Much better option than Skipp or Højbjerg for the squad/team.

Not to forget he’s also been one of Chelsea’s best players this season, so we might help them a little in the bank but weaken their squad at the same time.

We need to also think about homegrown issue. I don’t know where your getting a player of Gallaghers quality with 4 Seasons Premier League experience & 2 seasons in the championship for same money. He’s only 23!

Perfect competition for Saar, really need a engine in that midfield as we’ve seen the difference when he doesn’t play. He ticks all the boxes for me & wouldn’t need any time adjusting etc.

we really don’t need to force HG. We already have more than 4 association trained players which is all you get. Beyond that they are foreign just like anyone else.

This Connor Gallagher needs to be nipped in the bud once and for all !

ain’t ever going to happen . Certainly not this window if ever , I agree we need another option in midfield it really is the missing link to what is a fantastic squad we are building.

But spurs and Chelsea doing business and even if they did is the player likely to want to leave his boyhood club where he is often captain ?

if we are goi g to throw £50m at a homegrown midfielder then MGW at Forest should be our main target he can cover any of 5 positions from midfield to attack

Where has the trend for positions to be defined by numbers come from?

It used to just be the 'Number 9' which was a teams top CF.

I'ts very odd.
No.9 is very odd while nos 6 and 8 are very even.

But I agree with you. Its just this year's trend. Last year was "playing through the lines". Next year it'll be something else.

Personalty I miss the keeper wearing a green jersey with a no.1 on the back.

I still don't get why Chelsea would sell arguably one of their best players this season to a direct rival. They'd be a bit knackered without him?

Purely a guess but they might want to guarantee some FFP space now, because come the summer buying clubs would have the upper hand with their position and Gallaghers 1 year left, other clubs struggles with FFP means we might be the only PL club that is interested at say £40m, although I do wonder if Palace go in for him if they sell Eze and Olise.
