Since we built the stadium or are those jumps more recent in the last 6/12 months? Thought inflation was cooling!
If this graph is anywhere near correct , steel used for construction has well oustripped inflation.

The other factor with our place was that an awful lot of the materials came from EU countries and the pound dropping after Brexit added around 20% to some costs. Anyone planning a new stadium would have to take all this into consideration.

I may have this slightly wonky but IIRC we/Levy/whomever bought a lot of our steel upfront (I want to say the construction industry was almost on it's arse at the time and steel was a lot cheaper) so we didn't get walloped quite as badly as we may have due to the economy/brexit.

Granted with some of the design revisions to parts of the build maybe some of those savings got eaten into. ICBVW but I think I recall reading we made a number of planning/materials/construction decisions early on which set things up well.
e.g we had next to zero earthworks to pay to be carted away and disposed of.

Someone will correct me but this all rings a bell to me.

Yes , think Levy planned it all very well, there was also the story that we purchased the fixed tower cranes and then sold them on afterwards.
A lot of the Old Lane was the turned into aggregate to make the floors of the new stadium, plus we had storage sites for materials at the Goods Yard WHL and another on the North Circular near where IKEA used to be.
Think we just got the stadium done before it would have been beyond our means.

The purchasing of land for the stadium had gone on since around 2008/9 when the plans were first announced, keep it between ourselves but the club spent £340 million of its own money on land acquisition, legals and building costs up until 2017, just think how many centre backs that would buy.

Some reading for any steel addicts out there about our fantastic stadium :)

I can see the headlines now!

Spurs secure series of mega transfer...trusses

Beneath the south stand there are a series of mega transfer trusses, spanning in three sections across the sliding pitch. These trusses have been coordinated and integrated with the architecture such that the concourses, toilets, concessions and vomitoria are all as uninterrupted as possible.

Definitely right about buying steel in advance and selling on the cranes.
I heard the stuff about steel and concrete going up on a radio programme concerning something completely different. Just in the last 12 months it has rocketed.
Daniel certainly took his eye off the ball with the stadium construction, it’s his baby, or his legacy as some might say.
It’s a big debt but is manageable with all the extra stuff at the stadium now.
Suddenly everybody is concentrating their minds on ffp after Everton got whacked
I think we will see transfer fees dropping in the future . Foreign clubs are skint and we have no one to sell to apart from Saudi.
Financial wise we are as well set as anybody.
The futures bright.

Given the fact the tickets sell incredibly fast, is there any scope for a capacity increase at some point in the future? It definitely looks like we're limited with what we have now but the planning has been smart so there might be a way.

I think they said when they built it there would be scope to add.

We added a few extra a little while ago when we got permission for them. Not sure if there’s any more space.

Re expansion not sure Haringey Council would allow any large increase in crowd capacity, many locals already find matchdays disruptive and transport infrastructure would be stretched even more.

Technically it's probably possible but you would have to take the roof off to extend any of the stands , that would mean having to take down the unused sky bridge and that would involve an awful lot of work. As the roof works on a compression ring not sure you can just remove one part of it.

Informative article on the roof and another on what locals think of the stadium..

I did the Dare SkyWalk with my little boy the other week and the guide said they're in talks with Ministry of Sound for the Sky Bridge to become a club...be interested to see how that'd work

Thought for a brief time there's an actual government ministry dealing with sounds 👂
