I wonder if the links to Elmas today have been leaked by the club to prompt Betis. If it looks like we’re moving to another target, will they be forced to deal at our price. Obviously they have the option of just keeping him, but that writes off a chunk of quick easy profit that could have been reinvested.
Elmas stories have been there for months and if we wanted to make a stink about moving on we'd do it with a bigger target and it would feature in bigger papers than Turkish media circles.

Had a dream he came off the bench in our first match and scored. And then punched someone and was sent off.

Posting here for reference in case I have powers.

Ndombele, Lo Celso, Eriksen and Lamela allows us to match up with City and De Bruyne, Silva, Bernardo and Foden.

Lucas, Alli and Son match up with Mahrez, Sane and Sterling too.

Therefore we SHOULD have quality rotation and strength to compete. Not saying it's enough to win but the thought of those attacking options gives a lot of positivity.

Like your thinking, mate, but you conveniently left out a few...

Up front:
Kane (always misses parts of the season with ankle problems), Llorente & Janssen vs Agüero & Jesus

Attacking line/forward positions:
Son & Lucas vs Sterling, Sané & Mahrez

Midfield/attacking midfield/mixed positions:
Dele, Eriksen, Lamela, Winks, Skipp & Amos (lost last season to injury) vs. D. Silva, B. Silva , De Bruyne, Foden, Zinchenko

Central/Defensive midfield:
Dier, Sissoko & Wanyama (knee problems) vs. Fernandinho (getting older), Gündogan

We might have the numbers, but objectively we´re behind in quality. The season before last, Kevin De Bruyne was the outstanding player of the year: last season he played a full 90 minutes four times in the league. Four times. And they still won it. Take Eriksen or Kane out for the entire season for us: we would´ve had problems qualifying for the Euro League.

When all are fit and in top form, we are close to match their starting 11 - and in some postions we have the better players. But we´re lacking 2-3-4 top quality players to actually match their squad in midfield and attack. To put my point in perspective: who of our players would realistically get a lot of playing time in Guardiola´s City? I´d say Kane, Son, Dele and Eriksen - that´s it. And the latter two would fight for minutes with the two Silva´s and KDB - they wouldn´t get 30-something starts.

In other words: we NEED to get in a GLC-level player (or two), plus a young top notch talent (e.g. Clarke) as well as a N´Dombele.

If we are to change gears and start really competing with the very elite, we would keep our very best (type Kane, Dele, Eriksen, Son), keep our second best (Lucas, Winks, Dier, Sissoko), sort out the injury problems or replace potentially very good players (Wanyama, Lamela) and then add some real quality.

Always makes me laugh when I see the “nett spend” debate on here, as though spending that money means the club is going to be out of pocket as a result.
You do realise that if the money is spent, we then have a player that is listed as an asset of the club, meaning that we’ve effectively just exchanged hard cash for an asset that effectively retains the same value, with the potential for that value to increase. To all intents and purposes, were no worse off, other than the additional wages.
I believe that, as with any spending on business related assets, we reduce our tax bill, but I’m not 100% on this as we’re talking about a human resource.

DL is miles ahead of all of us when it comes to corporate finance, so I doubt he’s overly concerned about nett spend from a business perspective, he’ll just be focussed on the risk, and if Poch et al can convince him that the risk is either justified or reduced, he’ll invest.

Looks like Liverpool could be buying Junior Firpo (LB) from Betis for €45m. Could this harm our attempts to sign GLC? Betis surely won't need the money as much, so could easily hold out for his release clause.

That’s fine, but you still need cash flow to pay for players. We can’t just magic up cash unless you raise further debt

Probably BS. They have the best LB in the prem, why would they spend that much on a backup?

The way it seems like these deals go I do not believe that we would enter any discussions without Betis without knowledge that the player was a. For sale at a price b. That price would be affordable to us c. The player would be amenable to coming to us

Isn’t that where the new stadium revenue, sponsorship and cup runs come into play along with our other revenue streams?

We do sell players as well you know... ;)

Cant see us buying two CM's unless Eriksen leaves. So I think this one is secondary to Ndombele. I wouldnt waste time following this until the Ndombele saga pans out. Which will take ages as Lyon are obviously waiting for the inevitable PSG move and Levy faffs around counting his pocket change.

Even though it has been stated we are looking to bring in 2 different types of CM? Why wouldn't we buy 2?
