This was always going to be the reaction to him once people started hearing him all the time and not just on the odd CL game.Peter Drury's commentary. Hysterical nonsense.
Tyler's problem is that he kept going ten years longer than he should have. Call it a day at Aguerooo and he'd be remembered much more highly.I understand why people dislike him, but surely anyone is better than the soporific tones of Martin Tyler.
Tyler got stale, which isn't a shock considering how long he was doing it. Drury is already being repetitive and he is only half a season into his Sky Sports run. To be honest I don't think there is one commentator I actually enjoy listening to these days. People seem to love Ally McCoist, but I just don't see it. He is better than others, but think he has become overhyped.I understand why people dislike him, but surely anyone is better than the soporific tones of Martin Tyler.

Think I'd rather just have the option to listen to the crowd nowadays.

For CL, knockouts especially, you can accept his style can add something to the occasion. But when he tries to make a regular league match sound like a World Cup final it falls completely flat, and that's the only way he knows how to commentate.
When he goes "wow!" as well. Like he's never seen a goal from outside the box before. Absolutely absurd. This was always going to be the reaction to him once people started hearing him all the time and not just on the odd CL game.

Wrong.
I’m on the other end of the spectrum - all of the commentators bother me. All the commentators and almost all the ex-pros on co-commentary. Think Ally McCoist and Carragher are the two I quite like at the moment. Alan Smith only annoys me if Spurs or Arsenal are playing because his Arsenal allegiance is so clear. Efan Ekoku just weirdly sounds like he hates football and especially dislikes Spurs. People used to take the piss out of Mark Lawrenson for how downbeat he seemed on tv but Ekoku sounds like his commentary duties are an unwelcome distraction from something else he’d rather be doing.Maybe this should go in the unpopular opinion thread but I don’t think I ever have strong opinions about commentators. I just find them all pretty much fine. I’m always surprised when people know all their names, have ones they strongly dislike and so on.
I wasn’t sure who Drury was but I just listened to him on YouTube (and recognised him) and I thought yeah, he’s fine, like most commentators I have listened to.
