to judge Ange based on it.

It's a club issue, it remains despite manager changes and now Ange has taken part in it. Most who are critical about last night is still behind Ange and will look forward to the weekend. We just see that it's very likely another manager who'll never lift a trophy with Spurs.

It’s hugely frustrating to essentially sacrifice our best chance of winning something this season- just not really acceptable to go out like this, especially when we don’t have Europe to worry about.

Having said that, perspective is important. Most posters here were waxing lyrical about needing to be patient this time and not overreact to the first sign of problems. Well here’s that first test. And being patient doesn’t just mean waiting for us to build a new squad or things to click with the players- it also means giving Ange time to figure things out too. This is his fourth competitive match at this level of football- hopefully he has learned something from it.

Finally, it’s also important to remember the quality of opposition and score. Yeah Fulham weren’t great but it’s not like we lost 3-0 at home to Port Vale. We drew away to another Premier League team before going out on penalties. If this was the league we probably would have been ok with a point. we certainly wouldn’t be calling it a disaster or a disgrace.

So yes as a club it is unacceptable to surrender yet another chance of winning something. But a disaster? A disgrace to the Ange project? Not for me.

It's short-termism to judge Ange based on it. not sure what the sentiments of 10 years ago have to do with what I posted.

I don't know. Irrelevant to Ange.

First, no one has ever said it. Second, a bunch of people concucting theories doesn't make it so.

And here you have it. There is a huge chunk of angry disgruntled people who lash out - for more fundamental reasons - and who have been triggered by us going out of the EFL cup.
irrelevant? he picks the team

Shouldnt he have already known that? We all did.

His comments after really concern me. He was basically saying that he had to look at these players because he is going to have to rely on them. Ie. We won’t be selling them this window. Sanchez & Hojbjerg should have been out the door at the earliest opportunity but they could still be with us on Saturday. Terrifying.

Why would he? He’s been here a couple of months and they’ve clearly done a job on the training ground and in pre-season. He learned a lesson the hard way last night, one he won’t be making again.

The tinfoil theory that Daniel Levy is both manifestly incompetent yet also able to manipulate Mourinho, Conte, and now Postecoglu to do his bidding and then lie about it, never ceases to amaze and confuse.

To be fair, he doesn't need to manipulate Mourinho, Conte and Postecoglou as he was/is their boss. For me, I think at the beginning of the season he probably said to Postecoglou that the main priority this season is get Top 4 (If not, European football) and cups aren't as high a priority. Postecoglou has taken that on board and seen this game as a chance to see what other players can do.

Ange comes across open and honest in interviews so I hope someone asks him if he has been given a list of priorities for competitions by the club. Putting out the second team for domestic cups, even against PL opposition, has been a thing all through ENICs time. I'd like to know if it really is ALL about the league and getting into Europe. If it is I will at least be able to treat these matches more like pre-season friendlies than a path to winning a trophy.

I’m sorry but a number of the posts in here are a bit over the top. Disappointing yes, “total disgrace” “all his good work undone” etc etc is a bit much.

We are at the very start of a total rebuild of this squad. He cannot play every player in every game, but I also agree he made a mistake in changing a large chunk of the team.

However, had Bissouma played for example over Skipp, and he got a knock we would have the same posters in here saying “should have played Skipp, it’s a disgrace”.

Fact is, that team should have beaten Fulham last night, it was easily good enough too, and the players have let Ange down. It’s a damning verdict on our back up players and shows just how much work is still left to do with our squad.

I assure you the words "should have played Skipp" will never leave my mouth or keyboard

As disappointed as I am to not go through, I totally understand that at some point he had to try these other players out in a competitive game, and the league is absolutely his (and the club's) priority for good reason.

A good consolation for going out would be if we finally see the end of some players we all know are done now. Hopefully Ange has seen enough to consent to shipping them off and Levy heeds his warnings and bins them off sharpish.

Why do you think the league should the club's priority?

Ange made two mistakes last night... I do agree that changes are okay and needed. But it was too many changes... 3-4-5 would have been enough to keep momentum and still have a look at some players. He could make subs later in the game as well.

And.... Sanchez as 3rd penalty taker. Not good. Just wrong.

But it should not ruin the good atmosphere and positivity he has created already. Try and move on and learn from it.

yes, irrelevant.

It's short termism to call him a disgrace, that he cocked up, and that 'throwing away' a chance to win a cup because his agenda is different to yours. In his own words he has a squad of players that are all trained in his system and have to deliver, and he needs to see that in competitive games, and he put out a team he had confidence to win the game.

It's irrelevant to Ange and his decisions yesterday whatever decisions were made 10 years ago. It's further irrelevant to Ange because the reactions here of those you are chucking your toys are seemingly judging his decisions on what you want, what you need, and how you can be gratified in the here and now. Not based on Ange's motivations.

A thought experiment for you; would you rather compromise his chance of building a squad that can win five trophies over the next five years, for someone who can win a trophy now, at the expense of testing the entire squad?

I'm going to call bollocks on this. He's made it very clear what his intentions were with the game and the squad changes as well as his desire to win every game. He hasn't bought in to any long standing modus operandi or been or had his soul compromised by a long standing failure to win cups.

That doesn't take away from people's dissapointment of 'never' winning anything, but targeting this set of decisions is misguided.
