Insane that people wank off the likes of Brentford/Brighton/Dortmund then when we trust our scouts and go for a young GK for good value that’s by all reliable accounts (people that have actually watched him play a game!) had a standout season in Serie A, they moan like absolute toddlers.

I absolutely love signings like this. I also trust our scouts and especially with signings from Italy with our head scout being Italian and the fact every recent signing we’ve made from Italy is going to be the future of this club

Can't really comment on this guy but if Brentford aren't budging on 40m then we had to do something right? If we do the classic Levy and wait until deadline day to get a fair price then people moan, but if we over-pay then people also moan (and we're chumps).

Think it makes sense to move for someone else, both as a negotiating tactic and because we need to get shit done this summer and get some players in for pre-season.

Great short video from The Italian Football Podcast that's well worth a watch.

Two things of note to highlight for people worried about his sweeping ability and kicking ability:

1. They highlight stats that suggest that he is statistically arguably the best sweeper keeper from the Serie A last season having had the most interceptions of any keeper in the league

2. They highlight that he is 2nd in Serie A for accurate foot passes. (Keep in mind this is a league which contains Onana and Maignan)

He's apparently very highly rated, fits Ange's play style, Brentford want too much for Raya, we're moving fast, and getting this guy will free up funds for Maddison. What's not to like?

I guess you could look at it that if we save nigh on £25m from the Deki deal and going Vicario over Raya then that might make a tangible difference in securing other targets such as Maddison, Tapsoba or an Alex Scott.

Keeper is the position most affected by a manager's play style, because they can't take impetus and express themselves in the flow of the game, their play is entirely dictated by the system.

Admittedly I don't know much about Vicario, but if he has low sweeping numbers it most likely is to do with the fact Empoli played a deep line so he didn't need to sweep. Also looking at base passing numbers will likely reveal he doesn't pass lots short and isn't super accurate long. Again this is likely due to volume he was forced to play long to try and get his team up the pitch, rather than build up from deep.

The measures you can watch for which will indicate transferable skills across styles of play for keepers are: footwork, positioning, reading crosses, save percentage and communication. For the things that are dictated by style (passing numbers, sweeping numbers) all you can do is watch on tape how they perform in moments that translate to game states you'll need them to perform in and see how they do in those limited situations.

And for all those annoyed at Raya not being the guy potentially, the club will be making the same projections and assumptions on his short passing, as Brentford's style would have required very few moments of passing short under pressure to build up play.

When it comes to goalies, I defer to those who've watched him play lots and the general word from those around the game is very high praise for Vicario.

In over ten years on here there has not been one signing that has had universal approval. Totally agree with you, we hold the Brighton model as the one to follow and when we do Levy gets mullered and accused of being cheap! How much did Bentancr and Deki cost? I remember many on here having meltdowns about them being cheap options and they haven’t turned out to badly
We don't know if we are signing him based on data though. If we did, I'm sure people wouldn't be moaning. Looking at history it's more likely levy being cheap.

Interested to know why you trust our scouts.

Also his record on penalties is v.handy. Sounds like he's a bit of a specialist. 8 saved in 2 seasons I think they said?

Highly rated and if we can get him for 20 million or less that will free up more cash for other signings. Sounds good to me

Lloris : 8 penalty saves from 41 faced in 10 years of PL

Vicario : 8 penalty saves from 17 faced in serie A

Thats insane rate of 47% in top level football

Is Tottenham acting decisively? I don't believe it...

If this is the compromise purchase, I hope we use that money saved on a CB.
