My main concern with Potter is how he would balance his time between managing us and touring with Ocean Colour Scene.
I think that the Howe example is definitely worth mentioning (someone else that did merit ridicule when suggested a year or two ago).A million percent. If he was funny or “cool” looking people would have been wanting him as manager much more strongly, previously and now. I think the fact he’s called Potter, is kind of boring and just looks like a normal bloke counts against him. I even think he knows this hence why he grew a beard at Chelsea.
I think the same goes with Howe who has done a brilliant job at Newcastle yet barely anyone would want him here.
IAM AN ETERNAL OPTIMISIT. I guess that's my problem really. Levy can't be as much of a stupid c**t as he is making out. Surely. If for no other reason as we know all this crap is tarnishing our reputation and ultimately costing us money and we know how tight he is. The big money maker will be stadium sponsorship.I would stay clear of both right now. I caught the end of the Barber high performance podcast and although he said some nice things about de zerbi, I didn’t think them revelatory. He’d be ahead of other candidates for sure, but getting him to recreate what’s happened there at thfc is a massive stretch.
It’s pretty much impossible to know which way to turn now and I think the papers don’t have a single clue either so there’s no point listening to them. My only hope is when the German season ends we approach Nagelsmann again (if it’s true about the clause) and follow through with him and his DOF. But I suspect I’m pissing in the wind on that one.
I used to think Potter’s issues were just not having a quality striker to put the chances away, but not long ago someone on here did a good analysis of his teams and it wasn’t that the strikers were missing clear cut chances, it was that the teams simply weren’t creating the kind of clear cut chances that the top teams do. So even someone like Kane or Son would still be feeding on scraps.Potter was my choice in 2021 and his major issue - lack of goals - has probably the single best remedy in world football right here.
Think the issue is optics: it doesn’t look good to hire the guy Chelsea sacked again, particularly not when we refused to interview the guy that a) we know is good, b) would’ve come and c) has now replaced Potter.
There’s also an emotional factor. Potter’s time at Chelsea was incredibly humbling. That has to impact you, surely? Maybe some time away would be best.
Someone like Kane would be creating the chances for someone like Son.I used to think Potter’s issues were just not having a quality striker to put the chances away, but not long ago someone on here did a good analysis of his teams and it wasn’t that the strikers were missing clear cut chances, it was that the teams simply weren’t creating the kind of clear cut chances that the top teams do. He’d need to remedy that. But as a personality he was great at Brighton, with a huge focus on psychology and getting the players to believe in themselves etc.
I won’t judge him on his stint at Chelsea, it would be stupid to imo. But the chance creation is a big worry.
I wanted Howe pre Mourinho. Always thought he would have been a good fit for us but that horse has bolted.A million percent. If he was funny or “cool” looking people would have been wanting him as manager much more strongly, previously and now. I think the fact he’s called Potter, is kind of boring and just looks like a normal bloke counts against him. I even think he knows this hence why he grew a beard at Chelsea.

The key is that Newcastle fans had zero expectations after some of the managers foisted on them by Ashley and maybe we have to accept that we're not in a luxurious position at present.
I was impressed with the way that Howe, who to be fair had already proven his ability to do well on a modest budget, took himself off in his year out to hone his craft. That's what I'd love to see Mason do too rather than being stuck at one club.
Maybe, notwithstanding that we have no idea what the board are thinking (and seemingly they don't either) Potter is someone who, like it or not, is someone who could steady the ship and build some foundations.
Wasn't he simply stating that the average lifespan of a PL manager was short, not that he was looking to bin one off after 2yrs?Levy said in is speech at Cambridge about only keeping managers for 2 years Or something along them lines. What manger would want a job knowing this? It’s clearly all about the money with Tottenham now. Football is just the front of the business with everything else going on in the background. Look at some of the successful teams having long term
Managers, United with fergie, pep at city, wenger at arsenal. We could have potentially had that with Poch but levy didn’t back him and we have gone backwards ever since, levy has just been looking for a quick fix with mourinho, conte etc. I have been a fan of levy for what he has done but I’ve realised with him we will not enjoy the club long term anymore. I’m not even overly fussed at winning leagues etc but I want to us to challenge and be competitive, enjoy the football but I doubt that will ever happen now, we have fallen too far behind. I wouldn’t blame Kane for leaving under his ownership.
In that case I apologise for the assumption. Just so fucked off with everything to do with this club at the moment.Had spurs handed down from me from my dad, born in Essex, Spurs from birth. Worked in London for 8 years, swing and a miss mate.
I never said support somebody else, so you've completely made that up. So I don't know why you've said that.
My only point was that we do have a choice not to give the club our money, I even explicitly said that. The original post said we didn't have a choice in that, so I basically said the same thing you've literally said in your response to me, so I fail to see your point.
The lack of aggregators being posted in here over the past couple of days have actually made this thread a little more balanced, a little less stress free and a lot less bullshit riddled. There's a lot less to get 'angry' about.
I think it's become, within the constraints of the utter shitshow being dished up by the club, a much better thread to read and participate in.
He’s not actually been linked though has he?The fact we are talking about Potter is a disgrace
Potter has just been destroyed at Chelsea and his work at Brighton has been improved by De Zerbi
Potter going to Tottenham straight after a nightmare in Chelsea, would be so irresponsible. After a stint like how he just did, he needs time off to process what happened otherwise you have another AVB
No, he signed a new contract and removed the release clause. We just fucked up the negotiationsIs it possible that the club’s sights are set on Slot, but knowing they’ll have to wait a year to get him, are now looking to (another) interim appointment?
It might explain plenty of things that otherwise seem bizarre. Or alternatively, they might just be bizarre.
Just wild supposition. No real grounds beyond bemusement for thinking this.
