I thought De Zerbi would be a great option originally.

But it can always be a little dangerous taking a coach after only a few months from walking into a great situation to where we currently are.

If he gets off to a difficult start people will immediately call out him benefitting from Potter and Brighton.

I don't totally subscribe to that as I've mentioned before De Zerbi spent the winter break implementing his methods.

But he certainly walked into a club in great shape, with a very well drilled and expansive system not to far from his own.

It also meant his poor English wasn't exposed too much as that could have caused issues when trying to implement something new.

I just think that transition has been made easier for him. It's never EASY but certainly the platform was there.

We dont have that.

We need a coach who is used to walking into defensive teams/poorly coached and making an immediate impact.

That may suit Slot more and there's no real previous for people to compare to.

I swear it’s only when we’re involved that this kind of shit happens. Every instance of a manager deciding to go, it pretty much is guaranteed.
But do you read each story that comes out about other clubs when they are looking for a new coach?

Pochettino took forever to go to Chelsea as a free agent and even then it still hasn't been announced.

Sounds like the start of the standard Spurs negotiation cycle.

Seen it 100 times before and once there's this much smoke and we're at this stage of haggling over a few million I'd say we get the deal done more often that not.

Ok. You know the gap but you don’t know what they asked for. But please do assume it’s Spurs in the worst possible light.

What is the right amount? If they said €20m - would you say just pay it?

We genuinely can’t afford to chuck a load of money on the manager bit if we want to spend in the summer. There is no magic sponsor to bail us out here.
You're right. I don't know the gap. But what I do know is the sheer number of times I've seen this kind of headline where Levy is involved. The point for me is that this isn't just another player we are talking about. This the manager, the beating heart of the team, that galvanises the on pitch operation. And if levy has chosen him as the one, and wants to show decisiveness and conviction, then he should go all in and get him without having to negotiate. I also must say that I do find the idea that we are cash strapped a difficult one. Are we not the seventh richest club in the world; and do we not have a higher match day income than almost every other club, if not every other club, in the PL? I understand that we don't have the commercial revenues of a Man Utd for example, but I've always found this narrative that every window it's a stretch and a challenge and it's all very tight a difficult one.

Slot's agent had a meeting with Feyenoord today. Did people really expect us to sign him tonight or something? Seriously?
I think after the last circus we had before signing Nuno, most are suffering from anxiety and it's understandable. It's not a matter of needing to get every detail or minute by minute information regarding meetings and discussions. The fear of Levy brining the circus back to town is real for most of the fans.

It really does amaze me that some of you still haven’t made the connection between pawing over every journalist tweet, ITK update etc.. regarding an impending deal and the reality of how long it actually takes to be completed.

It’s like you’re the kind of people that will paint your walls at home, sit down to watch them dry, and then blame Levy for how long it’s taking.

We are all sat here watching and waiting for the news to come in. The constant recycling of what’s essentially the same news by the regular journalists that cover the club, the aggregators, and the Feyernoord journos and aggregators can make it look like a mess.

When in reality it’s just the normal process.

If he wants to leave for us and that’s made public and we want him as our top choice, hard to see Feyenoord being able to hold out when our financial power is so much greater than anything in the Dutch league

Great post. I really hope our fans understand that comparing De Zerbi/Brighton to Slot/Spurs situation is apples and oranges.

Not taking anything away from De Zerbi's impact (as I believe he has achieved more with that squad than Potter would have), but he's walking into a club, that implemented a moneyball methodology a while ago. Now they are seeing what the results look like when the flywheel is flying.

We want to do something similar. But it will take time to get the foundation built.

I'm sure there will be three or four key additions this summer that will be driven by Slot to bridge the gap. But just like Poch's first season (because I truly believed in him from the get go), I don't care if we finish 6th, 7th, or 8th, as long as I see progress on and off the field.

I do think the fans will give someone like Slot time, and understand the part about evolving our scouting/recruitment methods. My bigger concern is Danny Boy potentially interfering in the process. Forcing compromises, when none are needed. Taking easy choices and decisions and making them hard, because he can't help himself.

So, fingers crossed that we trust in the process. That means us, the fans. The players. The coaching staff. And most of all the 'suits'.
