As much as I like him(and I do really like him) he is limited compared to our other CM options. It would have to be well above market value though, because of what he brings on top of his football ability.
It’s not about the money, though, surely? We’d be mad to sell unless we had a fucking excellent replacement tee’d up and ready to go, with no risk of it falling through. Simply ain’t gonna happen.

He reminds me of Carrick, in that the fans would moan about what they don't bring to the team, but when they are not playing you notice the difference and want them back in. A lot of what he does and what Carrick did, is not noticed by the average fan, but as a former goalkeeper it is players like these I use to love being in my team as I could see the work they did off the ball to cut down the channels and stop attacking threats before they became obvious.

He doesn’t get into any of the other to 4 teams. For that reason I’d be happy to upgrade if possible. Imo we already have upgraded with bissouma and Bentancur but would be good to get someone in a similar level to kovacic, kante, Fabinho, rodri.
Bentancur or Bissouma wouldn't be starters for any of them too.

Werty as a fellow Irishman I don't want to disagree with you especially when we're surrounded by all these British people who we (Dougal included) are trying to convert to the bright side but Bentancur is better midfielder than PH.
You can disagree with them all you want. Bentancur has put his fair share of poor to average performances for us since he joined, and Hojbjerg doesn't get a lot of credit for a lot of the things he does because he looks awkward doing it. If the roles were reversed and Bentancur made the type of passes that Hojbjerg made in the first game of the season, people would be comparing him to Hoddle. Instead people were calling for Hojbjerg to be dropped.

Bissouma would be close for Liverpool, they’ve missed an energetic midfielder since Wijnaldum left, he’d also rotate with Kante which would stop him getting injured so much.

But even if they don’t, that only strengthens the point that we should be looking to upgrade. He’s the weakest of the three (imo - in footballing measures only) and that is the one you replace to keep improving.

I think I may have dozed off, must be my age. I had this nightmare where we sold Hojbjerg but kept Winks. Must lay off the cheese.

I think Conte rates him higher than we do.
I’m not so sure, I think he’s been the best option we’ve had until now but once Bissouma is up to speed I fully expect Bissouma and Bentancur to be 1st & 2nd choice. PEH could we’ll be 3rd choice and Skipp 4th but I don’t think Conte thinks PEH is our best midfielder but he realises that he’s very reliable

People keep saying he's not that good, yet he has been a few times delivering for us scoring crucial goals. Bentancur couldn't do that and yet people wanna him to play more than Hojbjerg. Skipp couldn't do that because he has been injured for so long and yet people wanna him to play more than Hojbjerg when fit. Bissouma still assimilating into the team and yet people wanna him to play more than Hojbjerg right from the season get go.

Lloris, Dier, Hojbjerg and Kane will always be the first 4 in my team sheet whenever they are capable of starting for league game and crucial CL ties, no matter how this is disagreed by some. One leader in each line of the field. I really couldn't ask for more than what we have currently.

Dier and Hojbjerg may not be the best, yes I agree, but to replace them is not a flick of a finger with someone deemed better and it's done. Their leadership, voice in the dressing room and fucking commitment on the field are traits not so easily replaced just by that someone deemed better.

Becareful what you wished for..

I wager the fact he takes other midfielders off and leaves hojbjerg on every time without fail suggests conte thinks he is our most important midfielder

It's a great spine of the team. And as you say, of our midfielders he does pop up with goals every once in a while. Hopefully Bissouma will as well. Bentancur has 5 career goals, he's not gonna be in and around the box.

I’d be worried it might be too much change if we lost Hoj this window.

I see your point, he does seem to get more minutes than any of the others but that might also be because of the style of midfielder he is in terms of his all action style, defensive positioning, breaking up play, leadership etc, Bentancur isn’t as disciplined and is a little more progressive so makes sense to always keep PEH on as he will always give you that stability.

Conte might well see him as very ‘important’ I can’t argue with that but I think in terms of who our ‘best’ midfielder is, well if he gets up to speed then I think it’ll be Bissouma and I think Bentancur is a better player than PEH but because he’s a little more progressive he gets taken off more than PEH.

Tbh I really like PEH, he has so many positives but when I look at Bentancur and Bissouma they make it look a lot easier than PEH and to me that is a sign of a better player.

Yep thinking about this given him importance in our system and leadership within the squad it might be more detrimental than beneficial even if we could bring in someone who is ‘on paper’ a better quality CM than PEH.

Sounds like nothing in this rumour anyways which I’m happy about

I think Conte values his attitude, so much that I think he will start most games. It was the opposite with Lo Celso - he obviously was a good player, but if he didn't get picked he wasn't bothered. Conte wants his players going through fire to play, and I think Højbjergs fire and attitude gives him a lot of points.
