If you can’t see he’s exactly the player we need when up against an eleven man defence then you don’t know your football. Leave the fitness, medical stuff and financials for the experts - judge him when on the field.
He’s not though. Zaniolo is best in transition as he’s a powerful ball carrier. He’s not close to being as decisive as someone like Maddison when it comes to providing final balls against settled defences. Rewatch all the clips on the comps I’m sure you watched. Most of his good moments were on the counter attack.

He missed 11 games last season, for seven different reasons - one of which was 'unknown'. If that's not a red flag then I don't know what is.
7 different reasons??

I can see hip flexor that kept him out for 2 games which were 4 days apart, so less than a week
He missed one game with a knee injury.
He missed 2 games 3 months apart with 2 separate muscular injuries.
1 game with unknown which 9 times out of 10 a sickness bug or food poisoning that is never diagnosed for the actual cause.

So basically nothing more than niggles that most players pick up over a season and wouldn't be a concern with other players. Certainly nothing to suggest it has any correlation to the ACL issues.

From what I can see you are then adding on suspensions for yellow/red cards of which he missed 4 games. However despite all that he still played in 42 games last season which is a very high amount for a young player, and especially for one coming back from such a long term injury.

The real Ronaldo suffered 2 ACL's on the same knee I think and that was 15-20 years ago and he still had a career at the highest level

Actually there is something like having an ACL surgery makes it stronger than before.
That's a myth depending on what was done. It can be strengthened using a different ligament but that always comes at a cost.

He did, but he was never the same player again. He had to totally change his game. Obviously he was still a massive talent and succeeded anyway.

I'd much rather a player miss 11 games for 7 different reasons than for one different reason, which would imply something much more chronic

He was better than most with one leg though and proved it ?
He wasn't quite as good though was he. Although he didn't really look after himself tbf

Fuck the YT clips of what he is doing at Roma. We are all fully aware of how Jose sets up and plays, wouldn't expect to see anything other than his teams counter attacking.

Everything needs to be assessed within the correct context! That's why I'll never take the opinions of those watching YT clips and quoting transfermarkt stats as anything other than not really knowing much about the player at all.

Romero missed over 20 games last season for five different reasons - one of which was 'Information not yet available'. If that's not a red flag then I don't know what is.

oh wait

I would imagine he’d primarily play as rotation/competition for Deki as the inside right forward which would suit him positionally as he isn’t a winger but likes to drift in to those kind of spaces.

We definitely need competition and cover for Deki, I was just hoping we might go for Moussa Diaby instead. Conte and Paratici are clearly big fans of Zaniolo though if you do some digging.

42 games is pretty impressive, note that PEH played a total of 48 games across all competitions last season and even Kane played 50 games.

His main position is actually in midfield/attacking midfield - he has been used as a RWF by Roma but that is not necessarily his natural position. He would offer us a lot of flexibility.

The only slight concern from last year for me is him going clubbing midway through the season when he was ruled out of match for injury. At that point his relationship with Jose was already strained and this caused a total brake down. Its really quiet remarkable that he managed to work his way back into the squad and a testament to how good he is really. Despite what Jose says about wanting to keep him, i think Jose would like him gone as they really don't work well together. For me, the injuries themselves don't really concern me much, like you say theres nothing majorly worrying with his record last year on that front.

Would imagine it's similar watching Bergwijn under Jose to how he operates for the Netherlands - chalk and cheese.

I have no horse in this race, but for the sake of a fair debate I think it’s important to point out that Maddison has missed 124 days/17 games over the last 2 seasons due to hip injury.

I can't argue that's it's better to actually watch a player throughout the season but some who have done just that say he has issues playing the pass and tried to do it all himself, which you can see in the clips. It's not just about the clips,Ike you said it's about the context.

The only thing stopping me saying I’d absolutely take him over Maddison is our home grown situation. If we’re solving that in another way, I’d go Zaniolo all day. He’s exactly what we need.

I don't either actually although I'm siding with the not so keen crew, probably solely because I'd rather sign a player who hasn't done both of his ACLs and there's quite a long list of people who have actually worked with the fella saying he could be more professional. He's a young guy so maybe that's not an issue but it's still there to be read so I'm cautious

Have you watched him all season or just his YT clips? Asking for a friend
