I don't think it should be understated how risky it is to sign a player not only with just 2 goals and 1 assist in the league last season, but an ACL injury in both knees. The difference in risk between him and Maddison is insane relative to their probable price tags.

Well I just have to hope this turns out to be a Paratici masterclass like our Jan signings did.

Could well be the next one in.

Thanks Trix, interesting to know there's something behind the rumours.

Personally i'm a bit underwhelmed - clearly had/has potential and presume Paratici & Conte know him very well (in terms of his abilities) but seems like a bit of a gamble to me with his injuries and whether he'll adapt.

As always i'll put my trust in Conte and this overhaul either way.

Daniele Longo reported earlier this week Paratici was going to hold talks with Roma for Zaniolo.

Guess those talks are going well!

… But also incoming targets like Zaniolo ...

I dont know much about him. A few years back he was heralded as a wonderkid. Clearly two massive ACL injuries since then but as I understand it professional athletes in (less) contact sports (i.e. not NFL) can fully recover. Is the issue injuries? Nothing major for a couple of years since he returned from his last ACL surgery - niggly things like calf problems and muscle fatigue but nothing concerning? Not sure I buy the not suited to the EPL bit? Are people worried the EPL is more physical and he will injure his knees again? That aside it looks like he can handle himself. 6'3" and seems to hold players off well. Looks a lot like Kulusevski to me, which sounds pretty ideal?
Apparently he's had to adapt his game following his injuries and isn't the same type of player he once was. I think he's bulked up somewhat and lost some of the agility and speed he once had, while getting stronger and more resilient.

He's clearly talented but I don't think he's what we need. He's a good dribbler and can get a goal, but isn't especially creative or much of a passer. Our team is full of runners - we need someone with vision.

His total career goals and assists in Serie A are lower than Maddison got just last season in the Prem. Feel there are many better options here unless it's just a loan with an option if other deals fall through.

He's not really a creative midfielder, is he?

Swear he's more of a forward.

Need to understand Conte has never really had a creative CM/Number 10.

Even Eriksen played deeper and had to adjust to Conte's methods. Same with Fabregas.

This is a really poor signing from where I'm sitting, sorry to say.

ignoring the awful injury record (which is enough of a factor to not sign him anyways)

-2 goals, 5 assists in Serie A last year... 6 goals, 2 assists in Serie A in 19/20
-runner, dribbler, but plays with his head down (very common complaint from Roma fans)
-not as quick as he once was, uses strength more, tall but lacking explosiveness
-SLOW decision maker, this can't be emphasized enough. Poor vision, needs time to sort his thoughts out
-Not a central player, mainly a winger
-Very one footed (left footed)

This will be another Lenglet imo. A punt on loan with an option to buy, maybe with someone like Ndombele going the other way as it's known that Mourinho likes him. Can't see it being the main CAM signing. It will mean Gil definitely isn't staying around and will go on loan or out permanently.

Underwhelming of course if it's the main target but don't think it is.

I'm 100% with you - I'm really, really unsure about this

We've taken our Serie A obsession to another level

Yeah, I know. But Zaniolo isn't going to spread passes all over the pitch.

We desperately need someone who can pass the ball - we have enough runners already.

Would be up there with the worst signings made this summer. Never fit, not particularly good at anything, not suited to the prem. Be a deadweight we would be trying to move next summer. We must have some seriously shit scouts

Not the scouts at all. The deal would have to suit, but Conte is very keen. That's good enough for me.
