I can definitely see us using the 352 at times but you’d think anyone we are looking at would need to be more versatile so they can either play AM/one of the forward roles of AM/CM to slot in when we play 343.

Looks like we are linked with Oscar Gloukh, who looks a terrific talent but obviously more of a project signing in line with guys like Sarr. Would be nice to get the AM sorted and have another creative player and goal threat if we need to do something different.
This is where maybe Paqueta or Zainolo are a better fit. Can play higher up as forwards. On Gloukh, the highlight reel looks impressive, it’s something I hope we follow through on, investing in potential as well as for the here and now. 12-18 months time having players like him, Devine, Scarlett all on the horizon. Hoping there is some truth in the Sonny Perkins rumours too.

Leicester have no money

Arsenal are pissing them about on tielemans

they’ve bought nobody and Rodger’s wants players in

they usually sell a big player a season or else the owners have to put more money in to cover the huge wages to turnover ratio they have. They’d then risk falling foul of FFP.

He is their most saleable asset.

I would really be shocked if he’s there next season just because they need the money for signings.

Maybe, although the fan revolt would be crazy. We’ve had ITK that Conte isn’t wild on him and he’d still cost a bomb. Really don’t see him ending up here especially if we get Spence. Beyond that I’m not sure who’d want him and have the sort of money he’d cost.

Maybe Arsenal if they miss out on Paqueta, but I think they would more likely go for Tielmans considering the price Maddison would cost. Newcastle would probably throw the money at him but I doubt he’d want to go there. Chelsea, City, Pool don’t really need an AM. I don’t see anyone from elsewhere in Europe going for him.

Ultimately they may need the cash, but I’m sure they don’t want to sell their best player and won’t actively try to find a buyer.

I know what you mean, but if we have aspirations to compete with City and Liverpool, then players will need to make that kind of sacrifice to play at a 'top club'.

As an example, Grealish plays less league minutes at City and looks worse than he did at Villa, but he's now a much bigger part of the England set-up, plays in big CL games and makes more money. In spite of not being a nailed starter, he still got 2700+ minutes in all comps, which is only about 800 fewer than he had in 19/20 for Villa (he was injured for much of 20/21).

Given how we set up, I think you're probably right, as Maddison would probably get less game-time than even Grealish at City, and he'll want to be more of a key player. But if we're challenging across multiple competitions and aspiring to be in the CL every season, we can still give a decent spread of minutes to "squad" players, while offering plenty of other perks too (England exposure, stadium, wages, London, training ground).

Feel like he’s the CAM we want in if we’re after a pure playmaker — checks all the boxes of what we’re missing really including HG.

The last info we had on him and JWP is that they weren’t Conte’s picks and were only really being explored as an alternative answer to the HG issue if Spence doesn’t work out. I really don’t get the feeling he is a target high up on any of our lists

Understandable, but disappointing nonetheless for me
Agreed. I guess part of the problem is shifting the players we need to sell. If we sell the 5-6 players we want out then would could afford it. But if we are trying to spend big on a CB then we can’t afford another 60m on a cam too

We should be looking at young English players from the lower leagues for our HG quota in the future.
I understand they are gambles but players like Alex Scott and Ronnie Edwards are playing first team football, but with loan backs would be great business. Hopefully we look at these later in the window once our main business is complete.
They are gambles but surely with decent scouting they would be more economical than buying Maddison for 60£ million.

How much we got left to spend on an AM and CB?
Bremer, Gvardiol, Bastoni ship has passed for this summer, who else out there is gonna cost 50m+ that we are interested in?
Would it leave funds for Maddison if we went for a cheaper option CB. Really think he would be box office for us, HG, PL experience, 20+ goals and assists last season.

Honestly regardless of bringing in Spence for the HG quota, I don't think our attempts to bring in other home grown players should stop. If the player is good enough that we are interested then it's never a bad thing to have more homegrown.

Imagine a world where we poach the best player from 3 different Premier League teams in one window.

It's a crazy concept but we could have more than the minimum required for homegrown.
Maddison would still be a good choice regardless of Spence, I think there's definitely other options but not sure how likely they are. Savic for example would cost a fortune and considering we really just need more competition rather than a definitive starter may not be worth it. I guess it depends on costs but if we can get Maddison cheaper than some alternative and it allows a bigger spend on centre back I think it makes sense. I think that's the position that would be of most benefit now.
