another total failure of recruitment, among Eze, Olise, Bowen etc. we signed Clarke...
I get your point but it's not like they were all available at the same time. Eze/Bowen went the year after and Olise, the year after that. But if you're alluding to that perceived readiness to contribute, i think you're right - poor recruitment.

Clarke hasn't stepped up/made it. Bit of a strange deal in the end? Absolutely, paid a bit too much for a player who whilst promising, wasn't physically ready to make the grade.

Now were the others ready when they were signed for PL football? The stats imply they broadly were. Bowen had a slow first year but then played 30+ games the next year. The others jumped straight in at a youth-oriented Palace. So regardless of teams/levels, if you're signing a prospect (i.e. not a class star, starter) we absolutely could've done better it seems here.

Good luck to him, hopefully he can kick on and make a good career for himself.

Hard to label a punt a "total failure". It was a punt, it did not come off. We move on.

To be sure, I expect better "punts" in the future with a different recruiting team in place, but I don't fault Levy for taking the gamble here.

But the difference is those other players were stand out performers in the championship.

Clarke couldn’t get in the Leeds team and was pretty awful after collapsing on the pitch. It was a horrendous signing I just do not get it

Yeah very odd one.

Sure Clarke looked good in that brief period he was brought into the team at Leeds, but to go rushing in and paying £10m quid off the back of a handful of matches was overkill. Can only assume Hitchen and our scouting team thought they saw something special in him and took a punt that really hasn't paid off.

Yeah but every Leeds fan (I’m from there) couldn’t understand why we bought him, they didn’t see anything in him.

Will go down as one of the most pointless signings in recent years?

He is so irrelevant he doesn't even make thr transfer forum page where we still have players that we have signed

I have to say that he made the difference in the League 1 play offs. Along with Alex Pritchard. Probably found their level.

It's such a strange deal that we signed him that I have to wonder if there wasn't something else going on behind the scene. Probably not, but I just cannot fathom how anyone working in the professional game thought spending 10m on him made any sense.

The transfer fee wasn’t his fault, so I’m pleased he’s playing well and got himself a good move. There’s every chance he can have a successful career, maybe even at the PL level eventually.

Hopefully Paratici is just about finished sweeping the remains of the utterly broken scouting and recruiting system that identified him into the bin.

I'm a bit gutted about this because I still think he's got something about him but it was just a step too far, too early.
A couple of shit loans didn't help his development either but I hope he does well and carves out a decent career.

I'm not gonna call this out as a shite signing because I love when we take a punt on lower league players.
Sometimes they work, sometimes they don't but I'd rather we keep trying, than just stop taking these sorts of chances.

3 years, 4 Spurs appearances (non in PL) and a total of 95 minutes played for the club.

What a cursed transfer summer we had in 2019.

Boom! And he's not even in the Transfer Rumours section, whereas Yves Bissouma, who is our player for the next 5 years, is in there and so is Richarlison.
