Ali has bowled plenty of good deliveries, but he can’t seem to keep a consistent line or length to really put the pressure on.

True, and he isn't going to magically just start to put it on a line and length every time, but as I said last night I don't understand the fields we have set when he is bowling. Last night after two quick wickets we had multiple men out on the fence for him and they can milk ones/twos at will. A lot of the same so far today, deep points and deep square legs etc, men hanging back and plenty of opportunity to rotate the strike.

He's going to bowl bad balls and he never looks like he believes he's a bowler, but he's gone past the left handers a few times and had them squirting the ball away behind square and even had Smith with a couple of bat/pad chances. We should have been getting the men in tight, have someone both sides of the bat and make them pierce the field. Instead we just put no pressure on and just let them get a start and build partnerships.

If it's at the captains behest them why's he in the team if you have no faith in him, and if it's the bowler then Root needs to be taking charge and having a rethink with the fields/tactics.

Safe to say the first hour hasn't gone to plan. Been far too easy for the Aussies, bowlers haven't been able to consistently put it in the right areas, and Mo's been bloody awful. The games starting to get away from us here. Anything above 175 lead, I reckon we're in trouble. Lyon will be far more dangerous.

Going on again here - I know the two batsman are set now, but Denly has come on and spun a few and caused a bit of panic. Why has he got 3/4 men out on the fence automatically? At least wait for him to chuck a few pies down before going defensive. Make the batsman sweep aggressively for four and beat the field, rather than just a nice easy controlled one and get off strike.

I sincerely hope this is the last time we see Moeen Ali in an England side. He’s done absolutely nothing with the bat and now, on a turning wicket, he’s done nothing with the ball.

It is absolutely criminal that Jack Leach isn’t in this side.

Just the tip?
Going on this morning I’d be likening him to O Be Wan Kenobi....
We need a Brierley leading this team and Root needs to be relieved of his current duties.
I think that’ll happen when Bayliss goes though.

Moeen, Bairstow and an enforced change with Anderson. Depending on the wicket i'd consider bringing in two or three from Stone, Foakes, Curran, Archer and Leach and as much as I like seeing Kent players do well Denly isn't exactly inspiring confidence but I'm not sure who the next cab on the rank is.

But that won't happen with captain ****struck in charge and to be fair, such a raft of changes probably wouldn't happen with anyone in charge but specifically Bairstow, will he have the 'Yorkshire grit' to drop his mate :D

Tbh I don’t think you can call it knee jerk when Bairstow has been bang out of form for a while now and there’s a genuine like for like who is in much better form than him

Given we have Buttler who is either his equal or I think better Wicketkeeper than Bairstow and also Foakes who is the best keeper out of the three of them. Then surely if Bairstow isn’t scoring runs then his wicket keeping isn’t enough to keep him in the side. Be different if he was an outstanding keeper but he isn’t. He is good behind the stumps but not outstanding

For next test I’d go with:

Burns
Roy
Root
Denley
Vince (yes I know lot with disagree with this! Their is something about Vince I like as a player and think should give him one last chance at 5)
Stokes
Buttler
Woakes
Archer
Broad
Leech.

Neither Ali or Bairstow are doing enough to be in the team.

As you say though I highly doubt they will be dropped. Root wouldn’t want to up set his mates!
