The scenario that really warrants further discussion is the following: we don't sign Lo Celso, the transfer deadline passes, and Real Madrid immediately come in for Eriksen with Levy having no time to buy a replacement and having no leverage over the player. Eriksen will be unsettled and agitating for the move (which would have an impact on our ability to play him in the August matches), and Levy will have a choice to get some money for him or lose him for nothing next summer. With Alderweireld almost certainly leaving then next summer on a free transfer, would Levy be okay letting Eriksen walk, too, and missing out on 80+ million pounds of player fees? How fuming would that leave Pochettino and would the squad finish top 4 if we sold Eriksen and signed no one else?

I hope it doesn't come to that, and I suspect Madrid will be in for Eriksen whether we sign Lo Celso or not, given how awful they've been in pre-season, and with Pogba being unattainable. But it's something I hope the club is thinking about, absent serious movement in a new contract with Eriksen.

Or we don’t get him, have no second choice in place and end the window with just ndombele coming in.

And this is what kills me, and I don’t think it’s just Levy to blame. It’s and indictment of our whole process (scouting/recruiting/Poch/Levy).

I don’t have an issue not wanting to pay 75M for GLC. That’s a bonkers price for this player. However, we zero in on this one prospect, knowing full well that our valuation and the sellers valuation are miles apart. We assume that eventually the seller will cave, even though in today’s game, that is fairly unlikely to happen. And we have no backup option, so when we realize on deadline day that the seller isn’t going to cave, we just get nobody.

I just refuse to believe that in all of world football, if we have on the order of 75M to spend, there are only two players who can help us (GLC and Sess). That’s pure insanity.

Scouts need to come up with more options. Poch needs to be willing to consider different options. Levy needs to utilize other options as a means to determining whether seller is bluffing well before deadline day.

This doesn’t mean we have to play in the Njie/GKN space. We have the money to be buying proven options. We just have to expand our universe a bit.

Best case we shake GLC loose. Worst case we move onto other options and still strengthen.

Just completely blows my mind we haven’t figured this out yet. This whole area would be the easiest and best bang for buck to invest in to set club up for long term continued success.

I always though the adage was that something is worth what someone is willing to pay, no?

Otherwise I could just say ‘I will only sell you my left nad for an offer of £159m’ and suddenly my left nad is the worlds most valuable testicle.

Fair point. But only if you are looking to sell your left nad. Presumably you are not to looking to sell your left nad therefore only a grossly inflated offer relative to other left nads available on the market would convince you to part ways with it -I assume.

We could probably save a lot of wasted time and endless pages of nothing but no longer posting stuff from the likes of Ricky Sacks.

In future maybe try to find the source/link he's referring to, see if it's credible (real) and then post that?

Who knows what's actually going on...

Mate please this is neither the time nor the place for Lo Celso updates, take it to the Davinson Sanchez thread it'll get better traction there

@Stoof @Rob @Archibald&Crooks can we put some coding in that changes the word Ricky Sacks to Nut Sacks that way we don't have to repeat the "is he reliable? no he is not !" discussion every few pages. People will see the words Nut Sack and instantly think Bollocks! and we can all move on

Mate, there's a difference between 'flinging it around' and actually paying a fair price. Anyone who's observed DL's transfer activity for any length of time knows that he doesn't offer anywhere near what is perceived to be market value and more often than not pisses people off by low balling.

It's not a difficult concept to grasp FFS, try going into Tesco's and offering them £4.50 for a bottle of Verve Clicquot and see how far you get.
Sure, a fair price. What is a fair price for Lo Celso though? Is it the €75m Betis are reportedly after? I'd say not.
