It's like when we tried to buy Zaha. We're the only interested party but we can't get them to lower their absurdly high asking price, despite them being a smaller club than us in every sense.

I guess the main difference is that palace didn't want to sell Zaha, but Betis seemed resigned to losing glc right from the start.
Palace don't want Zaha to go and don't need to sell him to do what they want. They sold Wan Bissaka and only ever sign cheaper players.

The equivalent would be that palace had not sold Wan Bissaka, had signed Pedro from Chelsea as a replacement for Zaha and were 50m in the hole hoping to sell Zaha to cover that and sign the other couple of players they wanted.

The disadvantage we have is our window closing before the rest of Europe. That leads me to think we will have to increase our bid a little bit. If we are say £20m apart then they may just feel there becomes less risk in taking their chances and trying to sell him to another European club. There would surely be interest from somebody for say £45m worst case scenario.

I thought all the windows were meant to align this summer or has that been given up on?

Prem clubs make a ridiculous amount of money now. The clubs at the bottom of the prem make more than Betis. Prem clubs don’t need to sell their best assets anymore for funds.
Yeah, but we as a club must surely be aware of this? Why does it always seem that we're miles apart in valuation when it comes to our main targets? This doesn't seem to happen go other top clubs, espacially not when dealing with teams that are on a lower level.

I thought they were too tbh but it seems like England jumped first and nobody else followed.

Where have we seen that before?

I would imagine it does happen at other clubs, but because you aren't a fan of those other clubs, and don't belong to a fan site with itk of other clubs, then you don't hear about it. Perhaps right now, on another teams fan site, someone is posting a similar sort of message about their transfer dealings !

Obviously Levy is waiting for Betis to crack, but if they don't I wonder if he'll be willing to up our bid a little or restructure it to Betis' liking (within reason).

Levy's stubbornness is both his greatest strength and his greatest weakness and, like in so many previous cases, that extra couple of million could be the difference that wins us a cup or keeps Poch believing in this project. We should never be taken to the cleaners or pay silly money like Man Utd, but there's also a time when you have to look at the bigger picture and make small compromises to appease a loyal manager and the fans.

Levy is a hero in my eyes but if we don't get Lo Celso I fear it will do far more damage to the team and Poch's goodwill than whatever the difference in fee he is trying to save.

I think it'll get done in a deal worth in the region of €65m in the end. That'll be a bit more than we wanted to pay and a bit less than they wanted to receive but in the end everybody will be happy.

Man Utd still haven’t signed Maguire, that’s been going on for months.

We get frustrated because we only really focus on our potential incomings on a daily basis, yes things do take time and I want this lad in because Poch seemingly wants him. I do wish we could find a middle ground though as it really does suit all parties to do so.

But to say it’s only us who drag out deals is a bit short sighted

I refer you to the case of Man City and Mahrez.

Absolutely right imo Betis need to sell but not so much that we can afford to take the piss.

Exactly that. Can understand it if over paying on one fee might prevent you signing all your targets but in this case our only real target is Lo Celso with RS as a nice to have that won't make a difference to the first 11. Hopefully we have a mental deadline to quit playing silly buggers and just get this done.

I think we are the reason this particular deal is dragging out but only because we (rightly imo) don't believe that Lo Celso is worth the amount of money that Betis ideally want.

On the other hand, there's a reasonably long list of recent-ish deals we've done pretty quickly.

Agree with that. Was just pointing out that it was a short sighted statement to say that it’s only us who drag out deals

This thread seem to involve lots of people repeatedly saying the same thing.
We bid it wasn't enough, we are waiting. No need to post anything else

Might as well close the site down in that case. It’s a discussion forum... for people to ‘discuss’ things, not wait for prompts to say their piece and then sit on their hands for days or weeks.
