Player Watch: Kieran Trippier

I'd personally put money on him still being on the team next season at this point. How can we not sell anyone?!

That's really worring tbf - we still have so much deadwood laying around.

Not only that and we're going to Asia soon, and we have only signed Ndombele (Clarke) when our squad clearly needed a massive overhaul.

I will still give Levy the benefit of the doubt, because he bought in Poch #1 target, but if we're still here when the window is closed it's simply not good enough.

To be fair look at the other top 6 teams particularly Manchester Utd (who need massive clear out of players) how many players have they all sold so far this summer?
I think we are still seeing the effect of the premier league transfer window closing early
Compared to rest of Europe
The United situation is a consequence of having bang average players on highly lucrative contracts that are beyond the reach of most other clubs finances. There is no way Jones, Smalling, Young, Lukaku etc are prepared to take a drop in earnings to play for a lesser club, when they can hang around at United and take the cash.

They aren’t selling those two. They were only given bumper new contracts last season ????

Atletico seems to be doing the rounds today. Likes of Guardian and the Telegraph on it now. £20m.

Crazy we are now potentially shifting surplus players to the like of Atleti.

Hahahaha, YES PLEASE!

I would feel sorry for Atletico fans though, they've been used to such a good defensive unit and this season they have to deal without Godin and now possibly have to deal with Trippier at right back. Poor souls.

If it gets us £20 million though do it!

Has he been photographed in training this last few days? 20 mil isn’t a bad return given what we paid but if a domestic club was interested that could be a lot more.

Sounds like a deal that suits all parties, a small small maybe 2% part of me is thinking what do Athletico see in him that we are missing, have we missed a trick but I do think overall it's time for both parties to move on.

40m?? behave

Could get that imo. He hasn’t had the greatest year but he was possibly England’s best player in the World Cup only last year. And he’s (obviously) English which raises the price usually anyway. The amount paid for fullbacks has risen dramatically over the last few years. £40M is still less than the likes of Walker 3 years ago and unproven AWB at Man U.

£20M would be an absolute steal under normal circumstances (I don’t know how many years he has left on his contract).

I said it at the time but we really should have sold him last summer when his stock was high after the WC

And this is the thing i don't understand as it seems just about every Spurs fan happy to see him go, but then, as you so rightly put, he was Englands best player at the WC, got to be Englands RB due to a great season with us, and on that form is worth every penny of £40m. Seems really weird to me that no body seems prepared to give Tripper the benefit of doubt in his ability to regain his best form (despite clear injury problem last season), yet plenty are fuming at the thought we might want to get rid of Rose (who,in the past 2 years, has played plenty of games worse than Tripper but far less good games than Tripper). All very strange.
