I believe that we will have competition for that Eriksen role, with or without him. If he leaves, we get Lo Celso + someone else

Sorry, but fuck that! That's everything I hate about football these days. I know we have suffered from it in the examples that you have shown, but doing it ourselves just makes us as bad as the sugar daddy clubs who think they have a divine right to pick whoever they want from the peasants beneath them.

I've seen posts in here assuming that, for example, Palace should just role over and stop messing about with "silly" valuations of AWB and Zaha.......why should they? They are their players and maybe if we had dug in a bit more previously, we wouldn't have been looked at as easy pickings for the so called bigger teams above us.

There will always be a hierarchy in football, just the nature if the beast. But what makes English football so special is the lower teams that we still all know from the 4th division....it sets it apart from every other league in the world and it's important in my mind that that pyramid is always sustained so we do see players rise through the ranks. They will all get their moves but hopefully not through downing tools, being a brat, and kicking up a fuss cos that is just a shit way of ensuring we end up with a few teams at the top with squads full of the best players, some of whom, will never play because the riches of being on a bench at United outweigh the dream of just playing every week like their 7 year old selves dreamed of.

Sorry for going off on a tangent there but I just despise that "kick up a fuss" attitude.

I'm not saying I like it but it's the nature of the beast. We could faff around being ethical and end up with none of our targets because players (and agents probably moreso) weren't motivated enough to push deals through which would be more than disappointing.

Pretty obvious that this is Eriksen’s replacement, and knowing how we operate, I’d expect us to recoup most of the transfer fee this summer.

You're probably right, but you'd like to think that at least for one summer we wouldn't sell to buy...

...which would tee us up for a PL title challenge

I agree. I think we're likely looking at Lo Celso as the direct replacement for Eriksen and probably having Lamela operating in a similar role moving forward (if he stays). Would then allow for a guy like Bergwijn (?) to come in and provide depth on the wings as Lamela moves more central. Offers more balance within the squad, takes Lamela more central where I believe he's better suited now and gives us more pace in attack. This is how I'd hope it would play out if we did have to lose Eriksen.

So the source is this guy:

Anyone know if he's reliable?
Loaded question. He was first on Trippier to Napoli and Malcom to Roma (before they got gazzumped last year). He specializes in Italian clubs but really seems to be only reliable for a couple of clubs and agents. Depending on who Lo Celso's agents are I am not sure this is his wheelhouse.

Real Betis aren't even playing in the Europa League next season. I don't think they can't afford to keep him.
Maybe not, but they can afford to wait until later in the window for improved offers to come in. They know they've got a valuable and coveted asset and there's still a long way to go until the window closes.

Just read that Juve have the same valuation for Dybala as Betis have for Lo Celso and Bayern have submitted a 70m bid for him. I know who I would rather have.

I don’t think Dybala and Dele can play at the same time
