Not double the alleged offer though. There are very few CBs earning more than that and possibly only one or two of them are in the PL. That £165k p/w is very much the top end of the going rate.

Im not very sure what his wages are but at the level hes playing he should be getting at least x 0.8 of whatever the top centre defenders are getting.

I think he wants to run down his contract and then end his career at Ajax. He stated this after the CL semi-final. With one year to go it makes more financial sense as the next club will save £25M and can thus give him ‘half’ as a signing on fee. Or even as a fee to his agent (his dad) who will be able to use much more tax efficient mechanisms than PAYE salary. Only hurdle would be Levy insisting he leaves this summer so as not to lose out on a few. I think for Toby (32) he should make an exception.

From bbc...

I want it more than anyone else - Alderweireld
Tottenham defender Toby Alderweireld said he does not want to feel the pain of another Champions League final defeat.
He came on as substitute for Atletico Madrid shortly before Sergio Ramos scored a 90th-minute equaliser for Real Madrid in the 2014 final. Atletico went on to lose 4-1 in extra time.
"We were so close to winning it," said the 30-year-old Belgium international. "The feeling of losing is very hard.
"That night I flew to Belgium because we had the World Cup coming up, so there was no time to grieve.
"After the World Cup, when I had time to think about it, I thought it was a big chance, a big opportunity, and maybe it will never come again.
"I will take this feeling to the final and show I want it more than anyone else."

It’s absolutely right that Toby thinks about himself in this situation - it may be bravado, it may be a desire to stay, run down the contract and leave on a free, or even some sort of brinkmanship with clubs around deals they may consider offering him. It doesn’t matter. What matters is how he performs, and he’s been great this season. 1 more game Toby, I think we want it as much as you do...

Must be a bit of a risk for Toby though. A serious injury at his age could mean the end if his contract runs out. A contract gives security

Toby can do whatever he likes as far as I'm concerned - if he plays like a man possessed on Saturday evening.

Him and Jan are going to have be at their imperious best if we're to win anyway.

All the talk this season has been VVD, but these two are an absolutely immense CB partnership.

From the outside looks like absolute madness from Poch and the club being so stubborn on this.

Unless they have a centre back of similar ilk lined up this is going to be very silly.

I know it’s been previously stated reasoning was about Toby renegading on a deal but seriously that’s not the biggest crime... Especially IF Tony was then willing to now sign a new deal and we’re saying no thanks.

Footballers are money-grabbers, it’s a sad indication of the sport.

I’m a very (sometimes overly) principled person myself but there is a point where you have to maybe be a bit more flexible...

I doubt the club would want to ship him out just for going back on a deal. There's got to be more to it than that .
