Lot of low hanging fruits being plucked in this thread.

It's like Mystic Meg has come out of retirement to teach us how to room read comments made by a manager who manages a football team who haven't purchased a footballer for two transfer windows ...

'Team who hasn't bought football player in over 12 months has manager with views about actually purchasing a football player in the near future otherwise he may not have a football player to use in his team in the not tooooooOOOOOOooooooo distant future .... '

'A person playing football in Europe, some other football players playing in Europe and maybe one other football player who plays in Europe could be playing for you next season tooooOOOOOOOoooooooo ....'

The summer is going to be top, top, top stuff I reckon.

My mate just asked my why I think Poch has entered new territory with these latest comments and I speculated the following

Well , we've lost the last 5ish games , the players seem exhausted , the team he's built in 5 years has aged/want out , replacements essential . He's in a nasty spot even tho we reversed into next years CL .

He knows something big has to change ....or his reputation will go down with the inevitable downwards spiral of 2019-2020 results. He's freaked by the recent worst results of his reign . Alarmed at the Ajax match 1st 25mins where he couldn't motivate the players for a CL semi . .

Change ....or he's off to a plum job at one of the giants . He needs to partly rebuild again at Spurs now...so why not do it , backed properly , at PSG ?

Yup. Summer feels like a water shed moment. If Poch doesn't feel he is getting backed, I wouldn't be surprised to see things kick off as early as this summer. No signings in 2 windows and he's delivered CL again next season (barring a complete disaster on the weekend), got us to a CL semi and potentially the final.....all with a team which has gaping holes in certain positions. Trippier and Aurier trying to outdo one other in terms of cock ups/crappy play. A midfield absolutely devoid of options and only saved due to Sissoko finally turning up.

It needs fixing this summer and now over to Levy. Am i confident he will Levy will go out there and deliver? Unfortunately no, but here's hoping otherwise I really do feel we are in trouble.

Just reading the really long interview with Poch in El Pais and it paints the complete opposite picture of the presser the other day. I'd never read an interview with him before in Spanish (sick spanish skills innit) and he comes across in a totally different way in his native tongue. It's the same sentiment he projects in English but in so much more depth, detail and passion. The man really believes in the importance of values at a football club, the importance of a project. He's a really philosophical guy and doesn't want to chase what may prove to be an empty chalice at a club like Madrid - not at the expense of abandoning a meaningful project anyway. Also there's some lovely stuff about Lloris giving him his world cup trophy and how that sentiment means more to him then anything else he could possibly win.

In short, I'm utterly convinced the stuff in the press conference was a weird brain fart/lost in translation. Sure, he'll leave us one day to try his hand at one of the giant clubs, but the idea that he'll fuck off and leave us in the lurch goes completely against his values and ethos. If he was that kind of guy he would've done it already.

Played world cup to semis on an injury, still started first game of season had 2 big hamstring injuries and then come back to be played out of position and whilst supppsedly playing with an injury. Cut him some slack.

Can anyone tell me what our/pochs philosophy now is? We used to play 4-2-3-1, press high as a team and move as a unit. It was obvious and very difficult to play against.

I haven't see that all season, and with the constant shape changes we just look like no one knows their roles or where to be.

We've lost so many games we've been totally exposed.

How on EARTH can we play 4-2-3-1 high press!!!! With the key players in that system from the last couple of seasons injured or gone!!!!

Walker - replace by Aurier
Rose - can only play 1 game a week and not as good as before
Wanyama - an utter shell of his old self
Dier (so good in the DM position during the PL run against Leic) out of form, injured for months
Alli - out of form all season
Kane - injured, recovering from injury, injured
Winks - injured
Son - 4 bloomin trips away with the nat side in 12 months (but has shown that when he has been back)
Lamela (the guy Verts said was central to the 4-2-3-1 press and to our very high pressing identity) injured much of the year

i think you, better than most, know that Poch has been dealt a shit hand with injuries, wc and no transfers.

I'm not going to even dignify the "no transfers" with a response. Say what you like, we've played 4 at the back 5 at the back, 4 in a diamond 4 in a line 2 up top, 3 up top a lone striker..... The press that worked so well has been non existent for well over 18 months. We have had some terrible injuries but the constant changing in formation has happened even with the majority of the squad to choose from.

Poch was quoted, towards the end of last week, as saying that the rebuild in thew summer is going to be painful, I'm paraphrasing here. Frankly, it needs to be, it seems as though he's playing some of those that already know they are going. There seems to be no passion or urgency, I have a feeling that there is something poisoning the squad and, if so, the sooner it is resolved the better.

we are like man united for me, group of individuals relying on individual ability, seems to be no game plan or tactics and the amount of times we seem to start the game disinterested. ajax have worked much harder than us defensively in both legs.

We were lucky to get Poch when we did, but we’re in a different place now. If Poch walks, it’s not like we’d be hiring Woy or Big Sam, is it?

Absolutely and I'm not for a second saying replace him but we just need to get back to basics at times, and not tinker too much.
