They couldn't defend the high balls in to thebox. Poch will know this and thats the best way to get at them.

Did we really? A lot of possession with zero intent. That was as comfortable away CL semi final a club could ask for let alone a non elite club like Ajax. Such a gutless performance by our supposed stars. Every single one of them should have a hard look in the mirror this morning bar Rose/Sissoko. Badly let themselves & our club down

Not sure how Rose escapes criticism for his defending for their goal.

Can't see us going over to Amsterdam and turning this around. Can we score? Yeah I think we can but they were so comfortable on our turf so logically you'd think with their own fans backing them they'll be even more pumped.

The gulf in technical class was clear. We're England and they were Croatia. They were zipping the ball around us at speed and playing two touch while we were pumping it long.

Personally, I think the positive people thinking we'll still get through are mad and a bit moronic If I'm honest.

We played in a CL SF last night, this was a moment to show everyone just how good we are, that we deserved to be there. 1 shot on fucking target all night lol. We were fucking dicked over at our big fancy new stadium by a team who had a bit of belief about themselves.

We went to City and scored 3, I hear people say. We also technically let in fucking 5.

Time and time and time and time again, I sit the next day wondering what the fuck did Spurs just do there. Are they really that thick ? do they know the magnitude of these type of games ? Look at the PL, were lucky the past few games that scum, blue scum and utd are just as shite as us or we'd be in the europa next year and even now, I wouldnt put that past happening.

To have any shred of a chance next week this is what must happen.

Poch, you tinkering fuckwit. Play a back 4, got it ? Sissoko starts, son starts and Llorente is back on the bench... Oh and to have any chance in the slightest, and believe me here, we'll need to score at least 2. AT LEAST 2. That means Spurs, you'll need to have at least 100% more shots on target than the HOME game you just got dicked in. Let that all sink in, maybe write it down if it helps.

Let’s put this into context. Our biggest top level European game since 84 against a side, let’s be honest, everyone was desperate to draw in the QF let alone SF and our team peppered with supposed elite players puts in a performance like that...... GUTTED!

What is it with this team that when it matters most it shrinks? I said a few months ago to a mate that, ‘I’m beginning to hate this team. Hate the fact they were good enough to win a trophy but lacked the balls to do so’. Last night is exactly the reason why so.

If I’m honest come the summer I couldn’t care less if the lot of them leave bar Kane, Winks, Son & Alli (if he focuses fully on football). Sick to death of seeing the rest of them continually let us down. It’s one thing for Eriksen to say after the game ‘We made Ajax look better than they are’ yet then do nothing during the game to change it.

From the first few minutes it was clear our players weren’t ‘up’ for it yet continued in their casual laboured way. Only the introduction of Sissoko changed the attitude of some. Why? This is the biggest club game ever for most of this side, probably ever for the likes of Trippier, and they perform like that ?????

MP isn’t blameless either. Starting with 3 CB against a false 9, wtf is that all about? We were getting overrun after a few minutes, so clear to see, yet he done nothing to change it. We then deservedly go a goal down, make the change then. Have the balls to admit you’ve made a mistake and make the sub. Bring on Sissoko/Dier for Sanchez but again he does nothing. Instead he moves Rose to midfield with Jan at LB ?

The injury to Jan forced his hand and possibly the tie for us. We improved slightly after that and ended up with only a narrow defeat. Ajax really should have buried us last night, the fact we’re still in this is a minor miracle.

Can we go through? YES

Will we go through? Perform like we have of late then no chance. We need the away performance of the season for us next week to progress. I just don’t see it coming from this present squad of players as ultimately when it matters most they let us down ?
But could we expect something different? We are avarage whole season, half of the squad is injured, our two main strikers can't play, Alli and Eriksen are out of form almost all season (or injured), and Trippier is just bad player. We have big holes in every formation.
I was hoping that we can somehow perform in this game but considering whole season I'm not suprise that we didn't. This is the worst possible moment for semi final.

How dare you call us moronic arghhhhhhhhhh...

I agree with everything you say about us fucking up last night (and to a lesser extent the whole we are third by default so to speak) BUT it is half time in this tie and we will get a couple of players back who would automatically make us look more dangerous.

We were ALWAYS needing to score over there... do you not think we are capable of scoring two at least? Yes I may have misguided and misplaced confidence but i also know at 1-0 even if they get a goal, we are still in this and nothing much changes... first goal next week is crucial.

I think people who think this tie is automatically over because of a 1-0 loss arent considering everything in its entirety...

The thing that worries me most is our away form was brilliant before January.

2019 our only away victories have come against Tranmere, Cardiff, Fulham and Dortmund (who were already 3-0 down from first leg).

So to go to Ajax and get a win we will need to find the form from the first part of the season. When we were unplayable at times, away.

At least some journalists give us hope, Matt Law in The Telegraph,........

"Tottenham Hotspur have relished a lost cause on this Champions League run. Progress from their group resembled Mission Impossible after starting with two defeats and a draw, while a quarter-final against Manchester City and injury to Harry Kane left Mauricio Pochettino’s men with an uphill task.
This particular mountain might be even harder for Pochettino’s brave side to climb, with Spurs so low on options and needing to assess Jan Vertonghen, despite the Belgian’s insistence he did not suffer concussion.
But the way in which Tottenham fought their way back into this semi-final tie offers hope they can go to Amsterdam next week and upset the odds once again. "

Maybe, but we need to do it intelligently, not just lumping the ball upfield (Sanchez) in the general direction of a Spurs player. We need to get past the full backs and cross accurately. Trippier, our supposed best crosser of a ball, was inept last night and he wasn't alone in that. I assume Llorente will not start next week, so it's a moot point about getting high balls into the box.

We were at home, we lost the game 1-0, we had 1 shot on target, they made us look like a training team for 45 mins. We got better 2nd half only because they invited it. Oh and when we scurried past the half way line the thought, fuck it, lets try and score again and hit the post. Did you actually watch the game ? That was a team totally toying with us.

What makes you think next week will be any better when were away from home ? what indication from last night makes you feel that way ? Especially when our away form is a disgrace lately too ?

You realise that if we try and attack them they will simply move into another gear and overrun us ? Let me tell you something pretty obvious you missed too, those boys can defend if they need to too.

I think saying we fought back is very generous. We managed to find a better shape and tighten up and gain a foothold, whilst Ajax got more conservative and sat on the 1-0 lead they had. But at no point did we really hammer on the door and look like we were putting them under real strain.

Thats the thing though if you see tomorrow as an indication then yes id totally agree with you but i guess im not seeing last night as an indication. I see last night as us fucking up, them having far more energy levels because of their rest, we will have fit again Sissoko, Verts (most likely), SON who is critical and above all we will have Pochettino learning from his mistake not putting three at the back. I have a bit more confidence in us learning lessons.

They can defend but lets be honest, they were up against Llorente and no movement up top, they were defending really shit crosses... i think we fucked up so badly last night that the boys will be eager to correct that... no guarantees we will win but certainly a far better showing than last night.

Aldo dont forget Ajax for all their dominance only got 1-0... which is a great result but they may well regret not putting the tie to bed.

I will say one thing though, they made us look like an aged stale team - which ive said for a while about the staleness... need sorting in the summer.

Yep and they came closest to getting the next goal in the game.

We appeared busier and no doubt Sissoko's introduction settled us down but we didn't create anything of note.

We improved a lot when Sissoko came on. We will be far more dangerous when Son is playing. We can play far better than we did last night.

We need to win and we are not incapable of winning.

We did a little better, but they also sat back and invited it and protected their lead.

We can indeed play better, but unfortunately so can Ajax.

We deserved a draw tonight. Ajax gets all the plaudits for their "old, attractive style!" but we dominated in the second half and were extremely unlucky to not have put the ball in the back of the net. I'm optimistic that we can go to Amsterdam and get a goal or two with Son in the lineup and Llorente the tree out. If they perform well this weekend, Foyth and Dier should probably get the nod as well after Trippier and Wanyama's poor showing.

Dominance doesn’t get you goals. We have to create to have the opportunity to score, not possession. Yes, we played better in the second half but hardly make their keeper to save our shots. Our shot attempts all off the target except Dele’ shot.

Ajax deserves to win, and they made enough play to win, nearly scored their second if it wasn’t the post.

thinking back to the game last night, we troubled Ajax with crosses and had 3 good/ very good headed opportunities. Llorente and Toby must least hit the target with their attempts, and should really be scoring. These were probably our best chances.
I thought Llorente also played a lot better in the 2nd half when he started getting the ball forward quicker, and there were times he was bullying both of their centre backs.
Will be interesting to see if Poch tries to build on this in the 2nd leg, starting Llorente (assuming Kane is not fit) or whether he starts son, and saves Llorenet for the last 20-30 mins.

Assuming no Kane or Jan, i think i would like to see us start:

Lloris
Foyth Toby Sanchez Rose
Dier Sissoko
Son Dele Eriksen
llorente

I'd prefer

Lloris
Foyth Toby Sanchez Rose
Victor Sissoko
Son Dele Eriksen
Moura

I really do think Llorente is better as an impact sub and Dier slows the game down too much (close call though as Wanyama was awful last night)!
