FFS. Utter nonsense judging a player after watching one game. Do you remember Rose and Walker before Poch joined?

I didn't say I was judging him on one performance. I've been watching him for a while and decided to reserve judgement until he came up against a really good winger. So keep your self righteousness on its shelf mate.

And yes I do remember Walker and Rose and whilst they made mistakes I don't ever recall them ambleling back in the same way. For Jesus' goal you see Milonevic (sic) starting 5 yards behind Wan Bissaka and sprint past him in an attempt to make a tackle, low and behold the ball ends up on Palaces right hand side where Wan Bissaka should be and it's a goal.

After seeing his performance against City today Wan Bissaka is not the solution for us. I can accept mistakes and I can accept errors but laziness? No way.

Ambling back for the final goal after giving the ball away needlessly

Most of the players we bought didn't have the intensity they have now with us.
Did you happen to see Eriksen for Ajax???

AWB is only 21 and what you are complaining is something Poch would solve in a few games

Do you think that is intensity or work rate though?

You get 21 year olds who play with intensity and high workrate. I appreciate he's 21 and I can accept mistakes but I'm not convinced he's any better than KWP.

Poch keeps bringing up Liverpool as the model for taking that final step. This suggests to me pushing hard and fast for proper targets.

If we get CL next season we will be an extremely attractive proposition to a lot of high potential players looking to take the next step. 3 players I think we will go hard for are as follows:-

Aaron Wan-Bissaka - This kid is the real deal. I believe he is already the top RB in the country statistically. Incredible athlete and very strong defensively for one so young. Question marks on attacking game but that never stopped Ashley Cole having an elite career. Whoever signs him locks down their RB position for 10+ years. I really think we'll push hard for him (newspaper links already). Edit: this is well timed considering the previous posts ?

Tanguy Ndombele - Lyon seem incredibly likely to auction him off this summer, which would usually blow us out of the water, but as Poch says, that's what Liverpool did. Brilliant young all round CM that ticks all of the Poch boxes. JJ hinted we didn't rate him at Lyon's price which may come down a bit this summer. I imagine with the likes of Gomes and Tielemans on the market Levy will be trying to push one of those on Poch.

Nicolas Pepe - The kind of player Dortmund regularly snap up and every elite club is interested a year later. Rapid wing forward with very good finishing. Fits the Martial mould we know the club and Poch like. Arguably now has got the stage where he is too visible to make him viable however. However last time Lille sold a superstar we tried hard for him, it's public knowledge. We are a lot better placed now too. Maybe we can follow up a shock CL victory by signing him like the the scum did ? Son/Kane/Pepe with Dele in support would be comparable with what City and Liverpool have IMO.

Now that would be the kind of window Poch is begging for. Exciting high potential signings. Don't believe for a second we could actually pull it off but I think there's a good chance we'll be trying on the above at some point. All about the money as we must be an extremely attractive proposition now for this bracket of player.

The one established player I could see us going for would be Isco. Depends on how he gets on with Zidane but I think Madrid will be keen on offering makeweights in their transfer deals and Chelsea is no longer an option on that front. This guy would be VDV mark 2. Fantastic player that would be an instant fan favourite due to his flair. Think he would thrive with that. Could imagine Poch getting him working hard too.

This is the kind of level we should be aiming at if we seal another year of CL football. Seemed to be the case with the De Jong and De Ligt interest. We can all say they are optimstic as they are, but that seems to be what Poch is asking for. Wow us like you did with the stadium Mr Levy.

Rose always had that tenacity about him and I don't recall him being a lazy type. At the same age, Rose was playing Left back for Sunderland and had his first standout year and I recall he was playing quite well.

Actually KWP is more a threat attacking wise. He was so good against Huddersfield and I was most impressed when he broke in the middle like an attacking MF and slipped a perfect pass to Eriksen to shoot against the post.

£200m. asking price though

In
£50m AWB

£55m Ndombele

£50m Pepe

----

Out

Aurier £15m
Trippier £25m
Toby £25m
Eriksen £65m
Janssen £7.5m
Nkoudou £5m

With those outgoings we could probably afford all three with a net spend of around 15m.

Never happening though.

Do people still think we should sell Sissoko? I am shocked that even in recent weeks people's wish lists include selling him as "he's getting on a bit"/"will only depreciate in value from here" etc.

He is one of the top 3 performer's this season, and you do not willingly sell your best players.

I think the people that said that was because in a CM2, they would want a player that was better on the ball than Sissoko. For a starting spot. Could still be a good sub option. But I could be wrong.

We could really never sell Sissoko after a display like this, this season. He's our player of the year arguably, and turned into a massive important player for us.

Eriksen. Was supposed to be on his way to Dortmund(when they were clearly above us in the pecking order) and they bought Mikitariyan instead. Klopp actually spoke about it recently because he was in charge of Dortmund at the time. Once Dortmund we’re out of the picture we were able to tie up the deal.
6 summers ago. That may well have been the case then but not so much now. We’re not exactly going for the likes of CR7/Kroos/Neymar now are we. Players who were attainable early on, Mane/Wijnaldum/etc, we still made a pigs ear of and please don’t tell me Sissoko was on the list for elite clubs ?‍♂️ Yes he may have come good now but it’s been over 2 years after his signing & in a position we never signed him up for.

We screw up in the market as we have owners who refuse to pay the going rate on the pitch whilst asking over & beyond that when selling. A Harrods shopping list with Lidl money. Yes you may occasionally pull of a fluke signing, VDV, but over 90% of that time this tactic of waiting till the last minute doesn’t work. Our manager is even on record saying that but do our owners take notice....... like heck they do. I’m years to come you’ll read all about this in MP book about how close we were but Enic failed to make the last step on the pitch

Know nothing about the lad but, according to The Mail (yeah I know ) Tottenham Hotspur are monitoring Celta Vigo's Uruguayan striker Maxi Gómez. The 22-year-old, who has a £43.5m buyout clause in his contract, is keen to play for a club in European competition.

Here's a juicy little tidbit for you dirty dirty girls:

Toni Kroos will be allowed to leave Real Madrid this summer to make room for Manchester United star Paul Pogba and Tottenham playmaker Christian Eriksen. (AS)

Who would take Kroos in return for Eriksen + cash? I know these kinds of deals rarely ever happen but we can dream, I think Kroos would be a cracking addition if Eriksen went in the opposite direction.

It's very likely Kroos would be used in a make weight for the potential Pogba deal though, so I doubt we would stand a chance if that were the case.

Also, the list for potential departures from RM this summer is:

Isco
Rodriguez
Asensio
Bale
Marcelo

That is quite the list, given that all of these players bar James were vital to Madrid's team the past few seasons.

I think the ‘faffing around’ is a misconception. If we target top players they are going to be on the lists of elite clubs. In a lot of cases we have to wait until those clubs make it known that the target is no longer wanted by them. So unfortunately this means the ‘faffing around’ is not always our doing. Unless we are a true elite club where money is no object then it’s hard for us to close deals immediately.

We get that trotted our every window though. As a club we are more attractive than we’ve ever been in recent times. If we can’t sign champions league level players now then there is a real problem.

I like us buying potential but our top players aren’t going to wait around for it to develop especially our foreign players. See Eriksen and TA as an example.

They wanted him before he joined Ajax.

So what's your point?
I was talking about his transfer from Ajax to Spurs and not his transfer from his first club, Atletico Nacional. For a player with a brain it's a no-brainer to join Ajax to develop as a player. He wanted to play first team football then, while Barca wanted to put him in the B-team to develop.
However, like most South American players they dream of playing for either Real M. or Barca....

No it really isn’t. Vain hope isn’t a strategy. Better to be realistic than be unrealistic and then end up scrambling and getting what is left.

As this thread amply demonstrates there are far more players available that 1) would improve us and 2) are affordable, than can be bought by all the elite clubs. We just need a clear strategy and half way decent scouting. I’m sadly sceptical on both counts.

There is an awful lot of talent between de Jong and GKN, that is where we should be shopping, hopefully closer to de Jong than GKN !
I trust the club to do its best. I am not anxious. Last season we bought no one and we’re doing pretty well. For weeks now I’ve made us favourite for 3rd and my view has not changed. Eliminated on pens during an injury crisis in CC SF. We haven’t done as well in in FA cup but that’s more than balanced by where we are in CL. And we’ve moved in to new stadium. I think it’s been a great season and I love this club.

We have a lot of players to sell and the players in necessarily depend on outgoings. I’d get rid of Aurier and give KWP a proper go with a rested Trippier. If the club think AWB is as good as most people in this thread do then I’d go in for him but I can’t see spending £50m on him as being good value.

If Toby goes then I’d bring in Joachim Andersen.

In midfield we need to spend silly money on one fantastic CM. That’s the statement buy. If Eriksen goes then maybe a homegrown midfielder too - is still like Grealish as an Eriksen replacement. With Dier back and Wanyamas contribution we only need a net of +1 in cm.

All the crappy wingers and forwards we have can go too. Nkoudou, Janssen and Llorente can be off. If there is a €30m attacking player that can be found then great. If not we’ll make do.

And a HG GK.

So in conclusion, if Eriksen stays I’d be happy with 3 in; HG GK, Toby replacement and quality CM. If there’s a great RB that our scouts and coaches like then I’d take that too.

Well let's just hope that The Mirror is as full of shit as usual then mate...

Tottenham are looking at 25-year-old Osijek goalkeeper Marko Malenica as a possible backup option if Hugo Lloris leaves the club this summer and Paulo Gazzaniga becomes No 1. (Sunday Mirror) https://t.co/UKZOCgYbuW
